Toad the wet sprocket has a sound all their own, with a little bit of rock, great acoustic melodies, wonderful heart-felt lyrics, and the soulfull crooning of glen phillips. Inspiring many bands in the few years they made records, such as Jars of Clay, they had a deep impact on the music world. And this is a Great tribute. P.S. is a slow melodic tune, much in par with Toad's pervious works. The majority of these songs are re-mixed, but still contain the excellent tunes that toad is famous for. the last few tracks have non-album versions of songs, or in the case of lullabye, unrelased in some areas, such as the US. Lullabye is the type of song that makes your heart melt, or sets you yearning for your loved ones...glen speaks slowly, and the rich melodies swell behind his voice. One of the greatest things about toad is you can always feel the emotions behind the songs...as well as the wonderful music. This is a good showing for Toad, and I'd reccomend it to anyone wanting a taste of Toad, it coveres some of their best songs ever released, and a few extras. Curl up with a cup of tea or cocoa and listen to this...you won't regret it.

Although I picked up the Fall Down single when it was out in the UK, Toad have always been rather hard to get hold of in the UK. That's my excuse anyway for taking so long to track down PS. However, if you listen to this album I'm sure you'll agree that Toad are one of the best melodic rock bands that America has produced and it's a shame that they never received the exposure that they truly deserved.
There are a few tracks from their other albums which I might have expected to see on here, such as Fly From Heaven from 'Dulcinea' but it's such a good collection it's hard to have any complaints. In fact the only thing wrong with this album is that it puts a full stop on one of the most consistent and heart-wrenching bands of recent years.

"Toad" are such a great band. Hardly anyone knows who they are, but believe me, they are worth checking out. Particularly if you are into bands like R.E.M and even Pink Floyd. They are a guitar band, their songs are very melodic and at times deep and searching. (Sounds awful I know, but they are really good)
Try listening to a few of their songs anyway.

HASH(0x9db2d5b8) out of 5 stars This one's for the masses 6 Dec. 1999
By D. Marvin - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
You may not have ever heard of Toad the Wet Sprocket in your life, but I guarantee you that if you listen to the radio regularly, you will have heard at least one (and likely more) of their songs before. "Walk on the Ocean", "All I Want", and "Good Intentions" (which has been aired on the show 'Friends') are just a few of the songs you may have heard on the radio without knowing the band who made them possible. What this CD does is combine all the hits, so people can get all the songs they've heard without having to shell out loads of money on all the albums. This CD is for the masses--the ones who didn't want to buy any past albums just for one catchy song or two. TTWS is a great band and this is a great starting point for casual fans. All the hits are here...so it's well worth the investment.

HASH(0x9db30a80) out of 5 stars Hard Core or not...this is a great cd! 23 Nov. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
P.S. is not suppose to be Toad's greatest hits album.(thus according to Toad the Wet Sprocket). It's suppose to be Toad's favorite songs, hence the title "A retrospective". I am not a hard core fan by any means. I only have one other Toad CD, "Acoustic Dance Party"(Which I highly recommend). There are really good songs on here, one of which I might have heard before, but I'm not sure...anyway now it is my new favorite toad song. It's "Crazy Life". This cd also has the staples of toad, "come down", "all I want", "something's always wrong", "walk on the ocean", and "fall down". One of the songs that was previously unrealeased "Silo lullaby" is another great song, especially before bed time. Overall this is an exceptional cd. I would highly recommend it. It's too bad that toad is no longer together to bring out more great music! Buy this cd, you won't be disappointed.

HASH(0x9db32a98) out of 5 stars A beautiful farewell from the intimately sincere quartet. 18 Nov. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This album is essentially Toad's greatest hits, but the simple fact is that most music listeners have never heard most of these songs. This fact is a tragedy in my opinion, for they truly missed one of the most musically sincere bands of our time. For fans this CD is truly a farewell and a thank you. For non-fans this CD would make a fine introduction to Toad, as it captures and blends together the moods and emotions of their unique (often mis-labeled) sound. I also covers a vast expanse of their 12-year career, from Way Away (off their first independently produced album Bread and Circus) to Whatever I Fear and Come Down (from their final effort Coil). It is probably a stretch to say that this album is essential to all Toad fans, as they already have these songs on their previous CDs, with the exception of two unreleased tracks (neither of which are highlights of this album). However, it is a beautiful album to have in one's CD collection. I say buy it anyway!

HASH(0x9db32cfc) out of 5 stars Truly a Greatest Hits CD 31 Dec. 2002
By sKy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Toad the Wet Sprocket is one of the few bands that can be dubbed "lyrical genius," and this CD brings that out. "P.S." is a wonderful opening song, and it's only the beginning. The album goes on to show other interesting works such as "Fall Down," "Crazy Life," and my personal favorite, "Whatever I Fear." There are a few duds, though, like "Jam" and "Way Away," but they hardly ruin the album. And then there are the weird tracks, "Hold Her Down" and "Silo Lullaby." I like the music in "Hold Her Down," but the lyrics are just too strange. "Silo Lullaby" honestly scares me ("Goodnight, sleep well, I'll see you with the rest of them in Hell...").
Anyway, "P.S. (A Toad Retrospective)" is a wonderful album all-around. If you are a newcomer to Toad, this is the best place to start. After you listen to this album, hopefully your curiosity in them will be aroused enough to get you to buy the rest.

HASH(0x9db32f6c) out of 5 stars Would have given it 6 stars! 19 Oct. 2000
By D. G. Bernstein - Published on Amazon.com

This latest release, and sadly their last, reminds me of why I have always enjoyed Toad, superb songwriting, wonderful lyrics and great production. I particularly enjoy the previously unreleased track "Eyes Open Wide". Toad fan or not, anyone who spend the 90's enjoyng the new direction of rock should have this albumn in their collection. And any serious Toad fan's collection is not complete without it.
