Longest living headphones
In 1985 Form 2i was introduced to the world; an ultra-light, iconic shaped on-ear headphone with an impressive stereo sound. Now more than 30 years after Steve McGugan did his first sketches on the product, it is still on the market as popular as it ever was.
In 1992 Form 2i was included in the permanent collection at the Metropolitan Museum of art (MoMA).
The light weight of Form2i headphones combined with their comfortable fit makes them very pleasant to wear - even for that 3 hour long DJ set you just discovered online.

Sound: For something that doesn't look as if it has very many drivers, these headphones are surprisingly powerful, but they aren't the sort of headphones for those who want to 'listen loud' furthermore, at high volumes I have noticed that the sound created can be a bit fuzzy. The major problem with the sound on these headphones is that there is a lot of sound-leakage, so again, if you like to 'listen loud', don't use these on public transport. Another problem, I feel, is that they don't cancel very much exterior sound. This creates a problem, you don't want your music to be so loud that everyone hears it, but you don't want it to be so quiet that all you can hear is the movement of the train and people chatting. However, on the whole, the sound quality is clear, but if you are a bass lover (Looking at you Big Narstie), then these probably aren't for you.
Comfort + Design: These headphones are probably the most comfortable headphones (however limited my headphone experience might be!) they are light, weighing at 90 grams, feeling so light that its as if they aren't even there. You can adjust the headphones to fit your head type making for the most ergonomic possible experience with these headphones (there is a sometimes an issue with this slipping out of place) , and despite this they never show any sign of falling off. Despite this there is a large design fault... The ear pads always seem to tear. If you want to buy a replacement pair of ear pads from B&O, it will set you back almost £13 from B&O.
Aesthetic looks: As you can see, these headphones carry off a good-looking retro-style with a funky looking pattern, in multiple different colours. Mine are in black, and think they look pretty nice.
Mic: No complaints from my friends, I use this when a play games online, and they'd probably rate it 7/10 in sound quality, but of course most people won't be looking to get this as a gaming headset.
Controls: Helpful having the little control panel at the bottom, letting you ff, go backwards or raise the volume. But, it is quite clunky at the same, so you'll probably end up just using the controls on your device.
Durability: I've had these headphones for the past year, no issues from me apart from the ear-pads. My siblings have seemingly had issues, but they don't really treat their headphones as well as they should be.
- Clear sounding music
- Ergonomic and light
- Decent Mic
- Decent Volume
- Useful control panel
- Stays on your head
- They look pretty nice
- Noise leaking
- Not noise cancelling
- Tearable velvet ear pads
- Bad bass
- you might have to readjust them fairly often.
First off, as the description says, these are not noise-cancelling, which I didn't expect anyways. But really they don't cover the sound of anything! Even my bf Skyping next to me bothers me so much I have to switch to the another pair. They are also not very stable on the head, so traveling with them is out of the question. They are also unfit for using at the office because the are open-backed and leak. So when can you use these headphones? Probably only in your room, by yourself. Which really does not justify the price.
Then I get to point #2: build quality. Yes, they are 'designer' headphones and they do look quite sleek, but they are so flimsy! Everything about them is fragile, from the jack to the cable to the headphone themselves. They don't come with a case and are not foldable, so good luck carrying them around and having them last. I would feel unsafe carrying them around my neck as well, they are just so flimsy.
Now onto comfort. All the reviews I read here rave about how amazing these headphones are and how you can wear them for hours without feeling anything. Pfff, they have probably never tried TRULY comfortable headphones because these move out of place very easily and the material of the earphones is extremely scratchy and uncomfortable.
Last but not least, sound quality. The sound is good, but that is not why I bought these headphones. I have the ATH M50x for ridiculously amazing sound, I wanted these for comfortable Netflix marathoning or casual Youtube video watching. They do their job, but it is nothing spectacular.
All in all, I don't recommend these headphones. I didn't return them, but I am quite disappointed with them. They do not justify the price that I paid (56 quid), but 100 quid??? Everyone considering them should look elsewhere. I strongly recommend getting the ATH M50x for the same price, those give you amazing sound and are the most comfortable headphones that have ever been on my head.
I have a reasonable collection of headphones all in the £40 to £100 price range and what these B & O headphones bring that the others cannot is pricesion... tight yet expressive. The sign of a good set of headphones is that they bring your attention to nuisances in your favourite music... currently listening to Steven Wilson's 'Hand Cannot Erase' album and have noticed more layers than i had been previously aware of... an I'm only 2 hrs into my ownership... and i know they'll improve further as they are run in.
Therefore, I'd recommend these without reservation.
As a note of interest. I bought a pair of very similarly designed headphones from B&O way back in the late 1980's... They were great headphones and just shows how designs if done right the first time will stand the test of time.
After the initial excitement i got to test these babies. Very uncomfortable. Kept falling off my head, the sponge pads kept falling off and soon i had to order replacement pads as one got lost. The adjusters are too loose. Had to return them inspite of absolutely being in love with the crisp sound. I really wanted them to be my perfect headphones..
