PDP PL6302 PLAYSTATION(R)3 WIRED AFTERGLOW CONTROLLER

Manufacturer's Description

The AFTERGLOW family of controllers breaks new ground in form, features, and radiant aesthetics, delivering gamers an experience sure to have them glowing. The appearance of the AFTERGLOW controllers is defined by clear a polycarbonate body plastic, within which red, blue, or green circuit boards and components reside. Amplifying the theme, multitudes of LEDs within the controllers glow, matching the circuit board color. The result is a truly vibrant glow in both light and dark gaming situations. The AFTERGLOW AP.1 for the PS3 features L2 and R2 triggers modeled upon PDP’s popular REAL TRIGGERS add-ons for PS3 controllers. It also provides a refined analog stick location similar to the Xbox 360 style analog stick placement for FPS advantage with an ergonomically modeled grip built for comfort and competition. Each AFTERGLOW controller allows the player to adjust the LED settings to: on, off, or vibration (activates when controller rumble motors spin).

Looking for a new controller I wanted to get one that was cheaper than normal but felt like a regular PS3 controller and that is when i came across this particular model.

Now the first thing that stands out is of course the LIGHTS!! they are very bright indeed but not too bright that they distract you from your actual gameplay however if they do give you trouble you can switch them off via the black button on the back of the controller.

Next the feel and response of the control is amazing considering the price of it, I have broughten many controllers in the past that had a slow response and for those who play Online game any kind of delay in play can be deadly especially if you are a FIFA fan or a COD fan

Finally the feel is really good, the control feels almost better than a authentic one and the wire is a good 3 metres roughly so you can sit on the sofa rather than the floor :)

Right my 1st proper review of anything really.

I chose this pad as it had mixed reviews so it was a bit of a gamble, however I wanted a pad with this layout of the analog sticks that also didn't cost to much (more on that later).

I had read that this controller would suit someone with smaller hands, as mine are this is no problem but if you have biggish hands I wouldn't recommend it, it has some moulding underneath that contours to your middle fingers and if you have bigger hands this may be a bit uncomfortable aswell as the controllers overall smaller size.

The trigger shape also got my interest as it has a scoop type thing so your fingers aren't sliding off and the L1/R1 buttons are angled to follow the shape of your finger for easier pressing.

The Triangle, Circle, X and Square buttons are quite a bit smaller than a standard PS3 controller but that isn't really a problem aside from Sqaure which is kinda close to the analog so if your using it alot you may nudge the stick when you didn't want to.
The buttons respond well and I've not noticed any problems there.

The D-Pad is nice and works as it should.

The cable is a good length. (Can't remember exactly how long sorry but I'm sure the info is around)

The "afterglow" or lights work as they should but as others have mentioned are a bit bright so I prefer to leave them off or activated on rumble in some circumstances. Default is on, 1 button press is on rumble, a 2nd press is off and a 3rd will put them back on. The button to do that is located on the underside of the controller and slightly moulded into the plastic so not easily pressed by accident while gaming.

This is by far the best third party controller I have come across. I was a bit dubious at first giving that the button layout resembles a 360 pad which im not used to, but its really comfortable and takes no time to adapt. Its a tad smaller than a Sony pad but its very well built. The analog sticks, buttons and triggers are so smooth, in fact just as good as the Sony original. It has vibration and comes with good length of wire. The LED has three settings on, off, and rumble activated. There are two things which prevent this from being a true replacement to a Sony pad. The first is that the home button will not start the PS3 when in standby. The second is the pad has no Sixaxis. But, the positives certainly outweigh the negatives. This is an excellent controller with great looks & for any one tired of wasting money on cheaply made third party controllers that never work properly. I'd highly recommend giving this a go.

It's a good controller
Works very well
The glowing effect is a nice touch
The wire is very long, so I recommend for those who
play from across the room.
All in all, a good product.

I ordered this after I bought an afterglow controller for my sons Xbox, which was as good as the original Xbox controller.

I needed a new controller for my PS3 as my original DS3 was well past its best but I didn't want to spend too much. I thought this was the best option due to the reviews and the fact we already own a similar product for the Xbox.

Firstly I love the fact they have swapped the D-pad and the left analogue around so it's like the Xbox layout, I much prefer the Xbox controller and feel this is a better layout overall. It does feel slightly more compact though.

I also like the little shoulder on the L2 & R2 buttons, much more comfortable than the original and less chance of your fingers slipping off. There is also a nice little shoulder underneath the controller that your 3rd (or ring finger) can sit on adding some extra comfort.

Button feel overall is OK but I do have a couple of slight issues, the triggers are a little harder to press and feel a little stiffer than the original, I did feel a little discomfort after an hour or so of play, maybe this is down to being new though and maybe due to me coming from a controller that has had around 3 years of hard use! I'm sure I'll get used to the feel though fairly quickly.

With regards to the analogue sticks, these too feel a little stiff, this make it a little harder for precision movements, I'm currently playing a game where there is a sniper section and I found it difficult to get my cross-hairs over my target as quickly. again though this is probably due to my old controller, and possibly the analogue stick will free up after a bit of use.
