An essential tool for Windows Users
on 25 January 2013
Just installed it on Windows 7 (64 bit), ran a registry clean, restarted and all's fine. The CD comes with only one serial-key which you use for all 3 users. When I installed it, Setup found a newer version online and this was the one installed. You also get emailed a download link with a new serial key.
I've used RM from way back, primarily because software made for Windows never fully uninstall. Even the Temp directory gets filled up with stuff that should have been deleted when no longer needed. Only one word to describe Windows: RUBBISH! So get this copy of RM and run it every month. It's safer than other (free) products I've used (especially when I had Windows XP). If you've used Windows for a year and install RM, then expect it to find 600+ errors/inconsistencies/redundancies.
One word of advice though, before your first scan, click on "Setttings" tab, then click "Registry" on the left and ensure that "Create System Restore Point" (on the right) is ticked. This way if RM makes a mess then you can undo it! By mess, I mean if you have some custom accounting software that was badly programmed by some rookie who doesn't understand Windows registry then RM may delete this software's serial key and your software will not load. It's not RM's fault. RM follows a set of rules to do its clean up. If a rookie programmer doesn't understand these rules, then it's his fault, not RM. But make sure you can revert RM's changes.
Other things that you might also want to do:
- Go in "Settings," click "Scheduler" and untick "Enable Scheduled Scans."
- Go in "Settings," click "Scheduler" and disable the "Privacy Scan and Clean" switch (grey=off; green=on) - This feature wipes Firefox's history and you will lose your tabs next time you open Firefox.
