I only recently discovered Mr.Pizzerelli and his dad! As a bedroom guitarist this is fantastically inspiring stuff. There is not a single dud track on this album. He plays everything with great swing...scats here and there and his playing (and his band) is immaculate.
Boy do I feel good after listening to this......now where did I put my chord book?......

4.0 out of 5 stars Early John Pizzarelli Is Tops 15 May 2014
By D. Hoffman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Mr, Pizzarelli has it all. He was born without a voice, yet through great effort and study, he has one of the most affective end effective voices on the planet.

I am also heavily moved by "The Trio", —perhaps why I like the Pizzarelli family's records so much. They are an American institution. No one wants to live in an institution, but this is a fine record with which to play —if you play jazz guitar. OR simply a great record for listening.

However, the NEW Pizzarelli family effort of cover songs is a major musical accomplishment! FIVE STARS Exciting. Get them all!! Jessica, Bucky, Martin, Ray -the entire clan. You cannot go wrong with these cats!

Is Ray a blood relative of some sort?
5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful tone, upbeat choices 14 Aug. 2016
By hbmusiclover - Published on Amazon.com

Wonderful tone, upbeat choices, none of the bells and whistles (or should I say smoke and mirrors)-just good, straight up singing and rhythm, accompanied by Mr John Ps sly, quote-filled, and expert guitar playing. Enjoy another good one! (It's that Candy track that put me over the edge to get this one, btw)
5.0 out of 5 stars Another elegant , swinging , charming and engaging set from John's crew 23 July 2013
By Hammer + Jazz - Published on Amazon.com

One of the least affected and best jazz singer , players out there , John Pizzarelli simply makes great recordings . For an homage within an homage , simply check out how much John , pianist Ray Kennedy and John's brother Martin (acoustic bass) sound like The George Shearing Quintet on Smile as well as elsewhere . This tribute to Nat Cole is loving and lovely throughout . The trio is augmented on songs number six and thirteen by the beautiful tenor of Harry Allen . Not new music that sounds old . Rather , new music that sounds alive , affectionate and very vital . Superb .
4.0 out of 5 stars A nice set at the club 24 Aug. 2013
By Personne - Published on Amazon.com

Fans of John Pizzarelli appreciate his sense of the great American songbook. His voice isn't typical--it's certainly not Mel Torme or Frank Sinatra--but it's an earnest, winning voice. His guitar playing is exemplary. This CD is simply his trio: no additional voices, no chamber group to accompany the rhythm section. It's just three superb players without overdubs or fancy production. The result doesn't make a big splash like his Bossa Nova album. But it's nice stuff, well done.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good songs, great guitar skills 20 May 2015

This album continues to showcase John's excellent prowess on the guitar. I prefer an album a bit more on the easy listening side.
