Review

An excellent full range of phonic usage for these stages of text. I feel children would benefit immensely from the scheme. (St Nicholas Primary School, Oxford)

This is an excellent phonic based reading scheme. It is much better for teaching the mechanics of reading than the general Oxford Reading Tree scheme, which relies far too heavily on a sight vocabulary. Having an initial sight vocabulary can give the impression of early success but this may break down as the number of words a child needs to read increases. Songbirds can be used in conjuction with other books without confusing or overloading the child. They are lively and interesting stories which children love.

Daughter uses these in school but wanted to carry on the learning at home- she loves having her very own 'school books'. Excellent but, will be purchasing more as we go thru the stages.

These books helped my son with his English reading and held his interest while he learnt. A good tool for home working.
