Very basic but contains a lot of up-to-date vocabulary (e.g. e-mail) that more comprehensive dictionaries don't, and the print is very clear, which is where many Arabic dictionaries fall down.

Nice dictionary, no transliterations (= not for people who can't read the Arabic script) but it's got all the vowelling :) Including verb-explanation :)

This is a very disappointing dictionary. I might have suspected the case from its thin size. The dictionary lists the definitions for each word (more usually, 'a' definition i.e. one definition) without context therefore you are unable to work out the full meaning and nuances of the word. This can have disastrous consequences in some cases. I would not recommend this book to anyone wishing to use even an "essential" Arabic dictionary. Imagine an English dictionary that had only one definition for the word 'condition' or 'tense'. These are real examples from the book and you would be wise to seek an alternative dictionary.

I bought the book as a gift for my Arabic-speaking friend. The book has been helpful to him and very easy to use.
The Arabic-English and English-Arabic definitions makes it even easier to find the meaning(s) of words.
I recommend the book to all beginners and intermediaries whether Arabic or English speaking learning Arabic or English respectively.

Gives English-Arabic and Arabic-English. Good for an Arabic learner like me in that it makes perfectly clear such differences as first in time, first in a race, first in a series etc, and explains the 2 categories of Arabic verbs, ground form and derived etc. Published 2010. Don't presume to know how good it would be for an Arabic speaker learning English.

The Arabic font in this book is far too small and is also in greyscale. As an English speaker who needs to read every little dot and dash in the Arabic words then this book requires one to have the eyesight of an Arabian falcon. I would like to hear what the editors have to say about this.

This pocket dictionary contains a useful set of vocabulary although a bit small
and has both English to Arabic and Arabic to English unlike others on the market.
However, I am dissatisfied with the following: entries are not organized by their
roots. Also, for verbs, in the English - Arabic section only the imperfect tense
is given, and for the Arabic - English section only the perfect tense is given.
The Arabic - English section contains more entries.

it has no transliterations, something I have subsequently brought up with the author/compiler directly but to be fair I knew this in advance of my purchase as I had read several of the reviews which mentioned this. As a beginner/learner I would have found this helpful/useful but appreciate why Dr Jabari deliberately, as a purist, did not choose to compile his dictionary this way. Am very very happy to have this dictionary and recommend it absolutely.
