Firstly, Monica Murphy's One Week Girlfriend series is one of my most favourites ever. I had high hopes for the this book and they were met, mostly. This is the first book in a series about the Fowler Sisters and I always think that the first book has the most difficult task, introducing characters and relationship dynamics. I liked Violet and I think her character grew through the story so I enjoyed that development. My problem was with Ryder, the male lead. I really disliked him. I got his background and his issues . His relationship with Pilar was horrid. Pilar herself is a truly poisonous baddie and don't get me started on her relationship with others. Ugh. I wanted him to really stand up to Pilar and I never got the sense that he did. But, this is the first book so no doubt there will be more to come and I will be reading Rose's story next.

Owning Violet, what a fabulous journey. With conflicting emotions, secrets and a willingness to do anything to get what you want no matter what the consequence are. A roller coaster of a story but definitely well worth it, looking forward to the next one

** Book recieved in exchange for an honest review **

I loved the one week girlfriend series and have a few more of her books to read on my kindle.

Owning Violet is the first in the Fowler Sisters series, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest, Rose is next.

Violet is the middle sister. Has had her problems but has worked hard to get where she is at Fleur, the cosmetics company that was started by her grandmother. She has Zachery on her arm, even if he doesn't like to be faithful and she's eager to become his wife.- Why? I have no idea!

Meanwhile we meet Ryder and Pilar. Two people who don't mind using who they want, when they want, especially each other. They hatch a plan to break up the golden couple and sleep their way to the top.

Violet is willing to even use too, even though its out of character.

What neither Ryder or Violet expect is the chemistry that happens between them. New feelings and pleasures come to life between the both of them. Violet not expecting to like the 'rougher' side of life and Ryder not expecting to like the softer feelings he gets for her.

There is alot of bck and forth over the whole reason that this sarted out and I think that that kind of dwindled towards the end... you never got the end story over Pilar wanting to take over the company, so i'm hoping in Stealing Rose and/or Taming Lily that we get more input into that.

The sex scences happen at least once in every chapter.

The back and fourth between them is confusing and I do think the lack of resolution over that thing between Pilar and Ryder knocks the plot down a bit. I was expecting quite a bit of a scene over it, and yet nothing. Not even when Violet found out, she didn't slam her face into a wall or protect her father.

The ending? It's exactly how a HAE should be, I just wish Ryder would get his caveman attitude under check. I have a fear of that crap these days...

3.5 stars

Owning violet is book #1 in the Fowler sister’s series.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I was lucky enough to be given a copy by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a real slow starter and I didn't really settle into the story till about a third of the way through.

At the start of the book I really disliked Violet; she was repressed and snotty and generally a bit high and mighty. Zachary seemed like an absolute knobhead and I worried that this was going to be one of those books where Violet is taught to be assertive and confident by an overbearing Dom.

I’m pleased to say that's not what happened. Violet doesn't need to be taught to be a firecracker because she already is one. In literally the click of a finger Violet becomes an assertive little wildcat. I love her!!! She takes all the s*** she gets from Zachary and Ryder and turns it into strength and confidence!

Ryder considering he is seriously Alpha, actually plays the more traditionally female role in this story. Don't get me wrong Ryder is not in the slightest effeminate, he's all man lol. But he's also vulnerable and unsure and basically in need to a good hug!!!

I love that he claims Violet, it felt like a real turning point in the story. Until that point I honestly felt the Pilar would force him to do the dirty on Violet.

Pilar is creepy, I'm not sure how old her characters supposed to be but she feels like the creepy 50 something women whose desperate to reclaim her youth. She's kind of evil but in a pantomime villain kind of way.

I liked this book, it didn't grip me to the point where I stayed up half the night to read it but I would like to continue with the series.

Owning Violet gets 3.5 stars from me

“I’m forever changed because of her.”

I love starting a new book by Monica Murphy; I am always excited to learn of her new characters and the world in which they live. I’m pleased to say Owning Violet did not disappoint. Set in the world of business and cosmetics, Owning Violent was an exciting change from Monica and it’s worth noting, the boardroom shenanigans worked very well. ;-)

Violet Fowler is the middle child by age and middle child by nature. She’s the peacemaker of the family and the one who holds it all together. Violet is switched on in her professional life, she has a flair for the family business and wants to go as far as she can but when it comes to her personal life, she has much to learn. Starting with removing herself as the unfaithful, Zachary’s doormat and resisting the charms of her co-worker Ryder, which proves easier, said than done.

“I think using Ryder as the perfect distraction will help. Or hurt. I can’t tell yet. But that doesn’t scare me enough to stop me.”

Ryder McKay didn’t have a great start in life; he has fought his way from poverty to a prestigious job thanks to his friend, with complicated benefits, Pilar. When the opportunity arises for Ryder to advance further in the company he takes it with both hands, seducing Violet may be a perk of the job but Ryder doesn’t realise before it’s too late that he may be the one that’s being seduced.

“I need distance so I can gather my jumbled thoughts. I never wanted to give her any power. That was never part of my plan. I was going to own her, and believe me I’m almost there. But I never counted on her trying to own me.
