"I love having the opportunity to escape with a Sophie Kinsella book, and I OWE YOU ONE came just when I needed it. Fixie’s story is one of missed cues, mistakes, and the realization that you can’t fix someone else’s mess until you fix your own ― a smart lesson, wrapped in a gem of a novel." (Jodi Picoult, New York Times bestselling author of A SPARK OF LIGHT and SMALL GREAT THINGS)
"Compulsively readable . . . I adored it." (Sara Lawrence, Daily Mail)
"This is the funniest book Sophie Kinsella has ever written" (Jenny Colgan)
"This book is a shot of pure joy." (Jenny Colgan)

As you can see, Kinsella's fans are loyal and many of them seem to be happy with a couple of hours of easy escapism (so was I until this book). I will probably keep buying books of once beloved author - some of them are indeed really good chick lit (please check out "Twenties Girl"; "My Not So Perfect Life" was also really good and timely). Incredibly, there is already another book in the pipeline - a Christmas novel - due to be published on 31 October 2019!
I am not going to retell the plot of "I Owe You One" - I refer you to the glowing praise of my fellow reviewers. And this book is not a 1-star rubbish - I've read worse. BUT. For the RRP of £20, for the 300 odd pages of predictable plot full of oversimple characters, for the disappointment and to balance the rating, I give this 1 star :(
I was so pleased it finished how I was hoping, definitely shouting in my head when there was a u turn for a while. The only thing I felt is I wanted more, after the nice ending I just wanted a little bit more of the perfect 2.
Fixie meets her dream bloke not realising it at the time over a coffee and looking after his laptop, it is in the moment it is saved from destruction and this is where the connection starts, there is also typical family relations which I totally related to and was interesting to see another view point.
Overall, I think the characters could have been better developed - I did feel for Fixie, and liked how she grew as a person, but I still have many questions about her past and why she’s always felt the need to fix things. Her love life felt quite rushed and without substance. Her family were quite two dimensional and were just, there. I wanted more from the ending.
But despite my criticisms, I did like it and I will buy a Sophie kinsella book again
This book is less Rom-com and more family-themed. I was looking forward to this, but I didn’t warm to the family characters at all. I struggled to find them believable and hated the way they pushed around our main character! I may be sensitive to this kind of behaviour....
Other, non-family, supporting characters were great..I’d have liked to see more of of them.
Not one of her best, but it hasn’t put me off looking forward to her next!
I owe you one “ Madeline “ I feel like you truly do , although I read this book feel wasn’t up to usual fizz that had you laughing out loud .
The plot no terrible we were all rooting for Fixie , characters likeable / relatable.
The subject matter family moving on was appreciated.
To sum my opinion up ( if anyone cares ! ) I basically prefer the earlier books they were so much more fun
