About the Author

Overview takes its inspiration from Daily Overview – an Instagram account established by author Benjamin Grant. Since he began the project in December 2013, his daily posts have both delighted and challenged his audience from all corners of the globe. For Overview, Grant has curated and created more than 200 original images by stitching together numerous high-resolution satellite photographs. With each Overview, Grant aims to not only inspire a fresh perspective of our planet but also encourage a new understanding of what human impact looks like. He lives and rides his bike in New York City.

Benjamin Grant is the founder of Overview. His books take their original inspiration from Daily Overview (@dailyoverview) — an Instagram account he launched in December 2013. With each post and story, he aims to not only inspire a fresh perspective of our planet but also how human activity changes the Earth. Grant graduated from Yale University where he studied world history, art history, and rowed on the heavyweight crew team. He lives and rides his bike in San Francisco.

This has to be be one of the greatest and most awesome things I have ever bought (not just books). What you have here is a huge dense smorgasbord packed with stunning, jaw dropping images of our tiny beautiful earth from above. The images have all been taken by DigitalGlobe, a mapping tool that is used by everyone from the military to media. But the images are not the only awesome thing, there is a genuinely impressive amount of information on each photograph that fills the reader with so much knowledge and awe. The distribution of the chapters is extremely well thought out and at the heart of the book is an absolutely fundamental and crucial message: "love your Earth". In many subtle ways the author shows us the effect of human expansion, urban sprawl and farming on forests, wild life, natural resources and the sea. It is really something and a serious eye opener for anyone who has even a mild interest in photography and urbanism in the 21st century.

A big kudos to the author who does this as a hobby. He is not trying to make money out of this, the price is nothing compared to what you get. A serious must have.

Visuals inside are fantastic, but the book cover is shockingly used and dirty, with large oily finger marks, folds and seemingly even mould across it. Without the cover sleeve, it is just a plain blue cover with no coffee table appeal...

This is a so disappointing for a book whose main appeal is in its visuals, and which must have clearly taken a lot of work to put together. Looking at other reviews this seems to be a common problem. Will try to get a replacement sleeve, fingers crossed.

This is a stunning book. Should be #1 on your Christmas list if it isn't already! The images of our planet are breathtaking and definitely provide a unique perspective that is so often lost in our day to day life. You really have to see these images to believe them. Furthermore this book brings to life these images with insightful descriptions and commentary, and is organized in a way that really makes you think about the impact that we as humans are having on our planet. Truly changes your entire perspective. Benjamin Grant has really brought together something special here and I will certainly be getting a copy of this book for everyone I know!!

The product itself was really dirty, had a smear of what looks like glue across the front. The paper cover was put on badly and as a result the whole top is crumpled. Should have listened to other reviews. The actual delivery box was not damaged, so this is a fault of the product itself.

Messy roads are not really messy, cities are somehow organized, highway can be amazing, the trees are not plantend just like that AND earth is JUST BEAUTIFUL. Fills you with amazement and joy.
Book is 27,7X28,5 cm. No mini photos. Every photo is super clear can see the details.
Such a wonderful project. Can not wait volume 2 :)

This book should be in every school. It has altered my whole thinking about the world and the importance of what we need to do to save it. The pictures are stunningly beautiful, breathtaking even and then you discover in simply put wording what you are actually admiring. It is one of the best ways we could teach the importance of conservation to the very young. I've sent a copy to my grandchildren because I think it's truly marvellous. I'm seventy years old.

It's 280 pages of incredible pictures with each one having a bite size piece of information. Its educational, It's visually stunning, very artistic. Benjamin Grant has compiled the most fascinating series of images and takes us on a journey quite different to any other, where the starting point is always from space! Every image asks a question and each is more beautiful or shocking than the next. I bought this for myself but it will certainly be on my gift list for family and friends- a coffee table book that's a page-turner...stunning!
