HASH(0xa39fae4c) out of 5 stars Great reading for music nerds (like me)! 4 Sept. 2014
By D. J. OConnor - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Do you, or did you, enjoy hanging out with friends and just BSing about music? Old music, new music - doesn't matter. THAT is what this fun book is like. I was astonished at how many under-appreciated albums both Mr, Prato and I shared a love for - and I've never met the guy. Sure there are some we don't connect on. Anything else would just be creepy. But I feel I agree with maybe 80% of this book. Reading it had me digging our long forgotten gems and researching and buying several that I wasn't familiar with. This is the perfect book for just leaving your cares behind and digging into. Heck, the guy even remembers when and how he originally came across most of these recordings. Now THAT is a music nerd. I can relate to his record and CD clubs, library finds, holiday gifts and everything else (well, except for iTunes and other downloads - that is something I never do). If you love music, if you talk about it, write about it, love how it makes you feel. Give this book a shot. IT'S FUN.

HASH(0xa39fa060) out of 5 stars Diggin' Up CD's 21 July 2014
By uncle b - Published on Amazon.com

Though I just received this book, I am already enjoying it immensely. Greg takes all of us back to a golden era when New Release Tuesday still meant something, a weekly visit to Tower Records was a near-religious experience, CD's were still the best way to buy and listen to music (still is IMHO, crappy dowloads and hipster-approved vinyl be damned), and writers still compiled books that gathered up reviews and write-ups. Prato digs up those recordings by has-beens, shoulda-beens, never-beens, and even stuff by popular/acclaimed performers that you may have forgot about (or sold back to a record shop, back when a used CD might a been worth something to someone else, and when records stores were still in business). Trust me, you will be digging back through your collection digging things out you know you have, or scouring the 'net for a used copy of something Greg recommends (Blind Melon's "Soup"' anyone?!?!) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
