What I particularly liked about this book was the fact that it is written from a personal perspective rather than the academic or clinical perspective that lacks experiential information as so many other self-help books are. Tina is open and honest about her feelings, her frustrations with herself and others, her impatience at times and her enormous sense of achievement when her cycle returned. In my view this has far more value to the reader and helps them to feel that they are not alone in this, their feelings, anger and frustration are ‘normal’. It also addresses the issues of our modern obsession with body image and the pressures that this puts on women and young girls, even in the world of elite sport. It highlights the fact that women who might otherwise be regarded as some of the fittest and healthiest in the world, given their athletic prowess, are not necessarily healthy enough for other aspects of life.
I think this book will be a great read for any woman suffering from Amenorrhea who wants truly practical help and great advice and guidance on how to overcome it. The Science is there but so is the empathy and support that we all need to overcome difficulties.
