This is a great melodic rock album, and a pleasing return from Mickey Thomas. I am a huge fan of Mickey, whose incredible voice graced (carried?) some Jeferson Starship albums and all the Starship albums. Who can forget songs like 'Jane' and 'We Built this City'. Mickey's voice has lost a tiny bit of power, but he must be in his late 40s now so that's excusable.. Nevertheless there are some great songs on this album - and his voice still grabs your ear. My favourite is Surrender which features some great playing by famous guitarist Neil Schonn. Ritchie Kotzen also contributes to few songs. Well worth getting ...

HASH(0x96f4afb4) out of 5 stars Mickey Thomas Is Back! Starship? Not Yet. 12 Nov. 2004
By susumu-5 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Over The Edge is the amazing comeback album for Mickey Thomas, great vocalist of Starship(with or without Jefferson)and Stephen Bishop band. Guest musicians alone will be of much interest such as Jack Blades, Jonathan Cain, Steve Lukather and Neal Schon. ONE WORLD the first single is well-structured ballad. THIEF, TURN AWAY show catchy side of the album reminding me of LOVE AMONG CANNIBALS era Starship. SURRENDER is a nice rock anthem penned together by the Neal Schon of Journey and Jack Blades of Night Ranger. They made amazing rock anthem I GOT A REASON in Journey's Arrival. They did it again with the strong vocal of Mickey. FOREST FROM THE TREES is a intriguing funky rock song from Aussie new wave band TAXIRIDE's second album GARAGE MAHAL. EYES WIDE OPEN by Jonathan Cain who made OPEN ARMS is in a way another side of OPEN ARMS. Very deeply themed and touching. Although high-toned vocal is not yet fully returned and it is different from Starship, this album is enjoyable to 80's rock fans.

This is one of those cds I'd never heard so I thought I'd give it a try..well now I know why I'd never heard it.It has some great musicians and I love Mickey Thomas' voice, but there are not really any songs that hook you in.. they just seem to be going through the motions.Great potiental but just doesn't get there for me.
