This isn't the sort of book I generally read - it was the high standard of the writing that convinced me to take a chance on an unfamiliar genre.

Outcome is a great introduction to the post-apocalyptic series Breakers. It's a perfectly formed novella. The page turning race-against-time thriller story is matched by the quality of the prose (there are fresh metaphors and similes aplenty). The two protagonists are well realised and I enjoyed being in their company. I've already downloaded the first novel in the series (Breakers) and I'm looking forward to reading it. Highly recommended.

The end of the world is nigh as a virus is about to wipe out humanity, and our female lead, Ellie, decides to do the right thing and save a few people before she gets the hell out of harm's way.

Oddly, this includes her ex-fiance Chip (SPOILER ALERT) who she learns has been taken into quarantine. This is where most of the suspense comes in: Is Ellie too late to save Chip and his daughter?

But that's where the suspense ends, because instead of trying to escape this wildfire virus, Ellie (who knows just how dangerous the virus is because she works for the "Department of Advance Analysis" and so knows what's coming. This kept pulling me out of the story - there wasn't the urge to escape I'd expect in a 'Escape New York before doomsday' tale.

At 80 pages, this is firmly in Novella territory. It felt like an extended sample to me (there are 4 more in the series which are longer). It's piqued my curiosity, and I'll probably try the next one eventually but not so much that I feel I have to rush out and buy it.

A solid 4: Recommended for those who like shorter instalments within a greater series.

Easily readable short end-of-the-world as we know it novel.

This novel was not what I would normally have chosen and I was wonderfully surprised at how much I really loved the story-line.

Edward W, Robertson writes a phenomenally realistic novel that leaves you with `what if' questions. His depiction of the time, place and characters was creative and more realistic than anything I have read for a while - Ellie is a believable female in a tough world and I found her familiar; Chip is your everyday male and not the typically written about tough exterior with a heart of mush, man. This novel is a great and enticing beginning to the `Breakers' group of novels.

This story is definitely well-written but it could have been much better thought out. With so many dead and dying, there was no sense of panic or menace, nothing on media coverage, food shortages or power cuts. The story was told from the main character's point of view so we were given no feel for how the population were handling the situation, or how the authorities were dealing with it (except removing anyone showing signs of illness to an isolated location - a bit ambitious). There was way too much on how the main character felt about her former fiancé, whom she hadn't seen or heard from in years.

This short story was written as a preliminary to the 'Breakers' series, and maybe such themes are explored there. I'm willing to give it a further try and have downloaded Breakers.

A short 80 page novel which is the start of the Breakers series. This is a well written story of a disease that quickly spreads around the USA killing thousands in days. Did not expect the ending. Pleased I now have the Breakers Series books 1 - 3 on my kindle to read.

Totally enjoyed reading this :-) A twist at the end that was not expected. Refreshing change from stories you can work out the ending before you get there.

It took me the whole of this book to realise the two female characters in it are the same ones we see later in "Reapers". It is a clever introduction and moves along at a brisk pace, with a fair bit of intrigue thrown in for good measure.

As with the rest of the Breakers series I can thoroughly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this story it was a good little side bar while tackling the breakers series I've only discovered these books a few weeks ago but can't get enough of them. I will defiantly recommend to any end of the world fiction fan
