Product description

About the Author

On Mikey's first day at school he discovered the wondrous world that is The Book Corner, and he has never really left it. On writing, Mikey says: "I love the savage magic of wordcraft - it's edgy, exciting and much harder work than everyone thinks." He lives in the UK on the edge of the wilds of Dartmoor, with his wife, two children, and black Labrador called Lottie. He has more books than are strictly necessary, but not quite enough to have his house reclassified as a library. Apparently. You can find out more on Mikey's website: mikeycampling.com You can also get two free books, free audio stories and free artwork by joining his mailing list at: mikeycampling.com/giveaway Now we bring you the anecdote: Mikey has had lunch with the late Sir Terry Pratchett a couple of times. And you'll be pleased to know that Sir Terry was just as warm and humorous as his books.

As an enormous fan of the first novel in this series: 'Trespass', I couldn't wait to get my hands on this sequel! I read the book very quickly and devoured every word of Campling's eloquent and vivid prose. The characters were well fleshed out and personable and I felt like I was there with them on their journeys. The best thing about the book, for me, was the constant intrigue and enigma. I am dying to know more about this mysterious black stone and the effect it has on time. Campling's decision to spread the tale over various time periods is genius and allows a range of characters to converge into a fascinating story that follows on nicely from 'Trespass'. For me personally, this second novel's historical setting was more vivid and gripping than the one in the first novel and this really brought the book to life for me.

There was not a single typo or error anywhere in the book and this is typical of Campling's thorough and profession style. Another great piece of literature by Mr Campling (and I am dying to read the next one!)

5.0 out of 5 stars This book has it all, like Prego, "It's-in-There". 2 Sept. 2016
By THE HOLEY ONE - Published on Amazon.com

While contemplating what to say in this review. I was going to say: "This has everything but the "Car-Chase", then I realized it had that. Next, I was going to say: "It doesn't have FTL (Faster-Than-Light) Space Travel when I realized Time Travel was surely FTL. So, I'm merely left with saying: "This-Has-It-All".
As I was reading this I was reminded several times of an often repeated line from the: "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" movie: "WHO ARE THESE GUYS"? We never really find out more than they're Government Agents of some sort, some of whom are part of an Extraction Team...very sinister, "Hush-Hush' sort of Blokes.
There are also some interesting characters who change from Good, to Bad, then Good, etc. depending on where and when they are.
I personally don't like to give away endings or even much of the plot-line in a review but, since we know the Stone has fantastic powers and can transport some special people through time I'm Ok saying this; Jake doesn't seem to have aged much but Cally is now much too old for him and is actually working on her Dissertation for her PhD in history. Naturally her studies and her Thesis involve the Stone. Again, not wanting to give things away, I'll only say Jake's Dad has been suffering terribly since Jake disappeared without a trace and he's been relentlessly seeking closure.
While Outcast could be read and enjoyed on it's own, the reader will feel comfortable with the characters sooner by having already read the first book in this fantastic adventure that ranges from 3,500 BC to 2018. This story has the feel of a Stephen King epic Series; not the Carrie or Pet Cemetery King, more like the Dark Tower series.
Oh, another cool thing, the Author will send you a free copy of "Breaking Ground", a not-for-sale-Member's Only book that is a prequel to this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars waiting for the 3rd 19 Jun. 2016

There was a bit of a gap between this and the 1st book so it took me a while to remember some of the characters. Once it all flowed and the different time zones made sense before I knew it it was finished 😥,can't wait to find out what Crawford was keeping the stone a secret for (time travel?) and why Cally was discouraged from her dissertation etc etc. Very quick read cos of the storyline 😀😀😀

5.0 out of 5 stars Questions answered. New questions arise. 10 Aug. 2016
By Charles van Buren - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Mr. Campling's complex, compelling story continues in volume two of the trilogy. While many questions from the first volume are answered, new ones arise. It does not appear that the story is going to become boring any time soon. Volume two certainly is not as the interconnected action and characters appearing across time continue to entertain. As with the first volume, this is not a novel for those who want a simple linear storyline. Reading volume one first will definitely make the story easier to follow. The story combines mystery, science fiction, fantasy, adventure, spies and multiple characters into a mix of different but related viewpoints. Strong character development, good writing and plotting continue to make this trilogy a fascinating read. I have added Mickey Campling to my list of authors whom I follow. I eagerly anticipate the third volume.

I downloaded this book via Kindle Unlimited.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 14 Jun. 2016
By BSM - Published on Amazon.com

Mikey Campling is back with more mystery, suspense, fear and the very real belief that anything can happen to anybody, anywhere and any time...ANY time. Jake proves stronger than he seemed, Cally shows her bravery when needed, (and she needs it!), and new and old characters seem so real that you might find yourself actually laughing, fretting and crying as you observe their lives happening all around them while they search for the truth that can bring it all into focus.

This book reaches to the extremes of love, of greed, of evil and redemption.

I read this on a day when I had a million things to do. My to do list was still waiting the next day...I couldn't put it down until I was finished!

You will not regret the time you spend in Mikey Campling's Darkeningstone world. Can't wait for more.
