As a sci-fi novel, I would have liked a greater exploration of technology, especially Jane and what she could do.
As an Elite novel, I felt details were lacking. It was the Elite universe, sure, but I didn't feel as close a connection with the game as I was expecting.
I also found the narrative a bit long-winded, mainly from the point where Helen becomes a main character. There seemed to be a lot of long pauses as things are explained, thought about, churned over in peoples' minds and then commented on, prompting further explanations.
Overall, a good and fairly engaging read.
I picked this up to try to fill in some of the background on humanities involvement with the Thargoid race. The book describes the brutality of the race, and just how physically imposing they are.
Let's hope they never invade en-mass, as we'll be in trouble if they ever get planet side.
Look out for Rag Man :)
