This novella may be short enough to read in one hit but wow did it pack a punch! I’m still thinking about it now, a couple of weeks after finishing it. The writing is pure quality but it’s the story that will come back to play on your mind. It’s not frightening so much as chilling and I promise you the characters, especially Mary, will stay with you long after you put the book down. I found the book sad, haunting, tragic even yet from this comes the message about doing the right thing and how our actions have repercussions. I felt that I should hate or at least dislike Mary. She certainly doesn’t come across as very pleasant and it’s true that I didn’t like her. Thanks to Trevor’s skill as a storyteller though, I did empathise with her to a certain extent as it’s clear that she needed help. I won’t say any more as I don’t want to spoil it but if you fancy a short chilling read this Christmas as an antidote to all the usual fare, then this is the book to read.

Out Of Control is a short story at just 70 pages long. Clues as to the era the book is set in are gently given and I surmised it was pre-mobile phone era in a winter's night in the UK. I didn't discover the actually time setting of this book until I read it in the book description.

It's the winter of 1962, Mary and Ed are on an errand to deliver a last bottle of precious wine to Ed's dying father. Mary is heavily pregnant and they plan to leave shortly after visiting Ed's father and travel to France where a private clinic has been arranged for the birth of their child.

They have a car accident which they fail to report and as they stay in the remote "Crow's Watch" house sinister events build and Mary turns to madness.

This is a quick easy read.

Loved this book all the way through , Twist and turns that you do not expect especially the ending . The emotional parts of this story were written very well that brought a lump to your throat and in my eyes it takes a good Author to make an audience feel like that .

A fast paced read and a scary twist ending! I'd have liked it to have been much longer, but it works as an intense short story to be read in one sitting. I would recommend this to scary story lovers. I thought it had a hint of understated Hitchcock to it, but can't say how without spoiling it! Read it, you'll hopefully see what I mean...

what a great book..once I started it I couldn't put it down and when I had finished it I couldn't stop thinking about it..haha..when I first started the book I would never never have guessed where the author would take it..I am an avid reader and can normally guess where the plot is going or pick up a tale tell sign but not this time...author has got the balance of setting the scene and character dialogue just right.l really enjoyed this book and will be searching for other books by this author to download.

A tragic car crash on a snow-bound road triggers a series of events which expose the fault lines in a couple's dysfunctional relationship to a horrifying degree. This is gripping, compelling stuff, which drew me in from the very first page and forced me to finish the book in a single setting. The atmosphere is beautifully developed, with the retro setting (the early 1960s), the menace of the wintry landscape and the nods to the horror genre - the creepy, isolated house, the rat-infested cellar - all lending a Gothic touch to this short, nasty tale of madness and the consequences of making the wrong moral choice.

Highly recommended. Please buy it; it might encourage Mr Belshaw to write more in this genre.

Twisty, turny and downright creepy in places Trevor Belshaw has created a story that is both disturbing and engrossing. Set in the 1960's Ed and his wife Maria's poor moral choice at the beginning of the book initiate a sequence of events that leaves their personal circumstances 'Out of Control'. I felt that the characters were believabily real and portrayed in seemingly ordinary life as well as the events tied to the storyline. Like other reviewers I had intended to read this in one sitting but reading this late into the night I had to stop in case Rose appeared out of the corner to talk to me, and so finished reading in the daylight! Great plotline with many twists that you won't see coming building into a surprise ending. Highly recommend reading this book, you won't be disappointed.
