'Signing and talking simultaneously with young children, to emphasise key words in context, is an important tool with young children in the early stages of language development' --Michael Jones; Talking and Learning with Young Children
'This is a lovely story in it's own right but it's actually much more than that. There's lots of rhyme and repetition which are important for supporting language learning and developing vocabulary - plus the addition of signs which can help enhance early literacy and learning. You don't need any signing experience to be able to use this book straight away. It's an accessible and enjoyable tale for all ages - from babies to grandparents. They'll all love to join in!' --Libby Hill; Consultant Speech and Language Therapist, Small Talk Speech and Language Therapy
'It has blown me away.... I literally don't have the vocabulary for how emotional it makes me to know parents of signing children can have access to this - and wow, you've done it so, so well.' --CA, signing mummy

The story takes you on a gentle adventure with the farmer who goes out in her tractor to gather the animals home to rest at the end of the day.
The story has a repetitive lilt to it which invited my little girl to join in on each page. She practised the animal signs that she thought she had forgotten and was really proud of remembering them and showing me.
The book is very interactive for children not only because of the motor skills in signing with hands, but also because it has a familiarity to it like an old friend.
She especially loved the kitty cat who doesn't join the animals in the tractor... She chooses to sit on top of the tractor (so like a cat!) and my daughter finds this very funny having cats herself.
The illustrations are simple and compliment the story with quite relaxing images featuring the different phases of the sun going down.
Also on each page are the pictures showing how to recreate the different signs, which are very clear and make it easy to learn them together.
The print is easy to read if you are starting to sound out words like my girl and the illustrations really set the scene of a calm and happy ending to the day.
I have to say I love this book, it seems to have been considered so that parents and children can enjoy it together.
If you are new to signing this book has what you need to start enjoying signing and storytelling and if you already sign then this compliments the fun you are already having together.
The book has a really clear glossary to show you what the signs look like before the story starts but these same pictures are also repeated throughout the book.
The story has the lovely predictability and repetition that children love and benefit from. We followed the antics of these animals, it had us laughing at the silly things that they did and kept us guessing looking for the little mouse. It is a really worthwhile buy for any parent interested in signing with their little one, I will certainly be using this in my professional practice too.
We love doing the signs together and often whilst out and about she will sign the animals that she sees. Looking forward to reading the next Rhyme and Sign book.
I highly recommend this book for you and your little person.
