Product Description

The OtterBox Commuter Series offers protection without bulk. The exposed silicone corners dissipate impact away from the device for additional bump and shock protection and the smooth outer layer allows the case to easily slide into your pocket, purse or bag. The commuter series is a slim and tough protective case made of a durable silicone mid-layer and one-piece, custom moulded polycarbonate shell. Exterior Shell provides solid impact deflecting structure and slick surface for sliding easily into pockets. It contains port protection in which doors and tabs block dust, lint and dirt from accumulating and damaging ports and jacks. Camera access has a custom opening which isolates camera and flash to preserve picture quality.

This was fine for a while. It may be robust against bumps and drops but it's not robust against regular removal and replacement. I had to take it off often - mostly to put the phone into the charging holder in the car (Brodit active holder, needs the phone to be naked to fit in) and annoyingly with this cover on the phone doesn't fit in my shirt pocket at work. While neither of these issues are the fault of the Otterbox cover, eventually with multiple removals of the cover from the phone the hard plastic part snapped across the middle. It was probably after around only 8 months of intermittent use.

I'd suggest only getting one if you plan to leave the phone in it semi-permanently. If so then it is probably very good.

Have seen and used Otterbox cases before, and was always impressed. This is no exception.
Two points I would dispute from a few other reviewers.
1: The buttons: While definitely needing a little more force than the bare phone buttons, are by no means stiff. Compared to the temporary plastic case I was using, it's effortless.
2: Installation: I Was worried there would be an extended period of frustrated fiddling to fit the polycarbonate shell over the silicone sleeve. There wasn't. Three of the four sides went on very easily, the last side took a little bit of pressure, but that was all.
Not overly chunky, but adds a bit of Chuck Norris heft to a Marilyn Monroe slim n sexy phone. Which could be bad, but in Marilyn looked a bit silly in my big gorilla hands.
In the name of completeness, if I HAD to have an issue with it, It'd be that the Hard outer shell isn't as grippy as I'd like. Not slippy, or Drop-tastic by any means, but it'd have prefered just a tiny little bit more texture.
Overall though, No complaints, great case. My phone is well protected, and I'd buy this case again in a second. Love it. Actually considering a second one of a different colour scheme so I can swap bits around! lol.

Having read the poor reviews of the Otterbox Defender the Commuter seemed like a better bet and I wasn't disappointed. A shock absorbing inner case surrounded by a tough plastic outer means your Galaxy S3 should hopefully last the 24 month contract that you're undoubtedly saddled with. All of the bits and bobs line up pretty well, if not perfectly, and it's very easy to fit. A screen protector is also included which fits perfectly and is the first screen protector I've managed to fit first time with no air bubbles or dust particles ruining my efforts. I'm confident I could drop it wth no ill effects to the phone but as I'm still convinced I'm going to damage the screen with some mischievous keys or pesky coins I've also put the whole lot in a DIY pouch for when I'm carrying it around.

Much better value than some other cases especially the ludicrously overpriced and almost useless Samsung branded products.

This case definately protects your phone. I bought this after I had dropped my phone once, but was lucky that it had not suffered any scratches. Since then (about 2 months or so) I have dropped it 3 times on concrete and it has not suffered a scratch. As you can probably read from other reviews, the case consists of two parts: a soft rubber casing surrounded by a hard outer shell. The front of the case is raised around the screen ensuring that the screen has no direct contact with the surface if faced downwards. The casing does make the power and volume buttoms harder to press but over time I have noticed this issue less. Whether my fingers have become stronger over time or me just becoming accustomed to this,I do not know. It does increase the size of the phone noticeably in your hand, however for me, this was something I decided to sacrafice as I felt I needed this extra protection in order to ensure I still had a funtioning phone a few months down the line. I do not think you will be able to find a case that does not increase the size of the phone if you want a case that offers adequate protection. So overall, a good case that carries carries out its function. You may want to buy one with a bit more colour if, like me, you find it hard to search it out among all the other black gadgets you have.

I wanted to take my BB 9800 on holiday and needed a decent case to keep the phone damage-free. I have bought 3 previous cheaply made cases, the fronts of which broke off after a few days' use. I decided to give the Otterbox range a try, and I am delighted that they have reduced in price significantly. The case was delivered within 2 days of ordering, and fits my phone perfectly. It looks brand-new with a sleek, smart sheen and doesn't add any bulk whatsoever to the phone. The case is very well made with silicone 'plugs' to protect the battery and headphone jacks from dirt and dust (perfect for dusty safaris!), it is supplied with a screen protector that is easy to apply and a perfect fit as well. I was so impressed that I have bought a second one for a family member and I am considering getting a third as a spare - however, I will put this case through its paces and I am assured that it will stand up to daily use very well.

Great protection for my phone when I first started using it, but the rubber seems to go quite soft over time, coming away from the edges and losing its initial snug fit. One of the rubber flaps tore off after a while, and the design unfortunately allows a fair bit of dust and dirt under the rubber, which can end up scratching the surface of the phone. Other than those issues, I quite liked the OtterBox. It did lead a tough life with me!
