Gwen Godwyn, the perpetual student, comes to Italy hoping to gain a greater knowledge of her family and heritage. She gets much more than what she bargained for... Instead, she finds herself catapulted through time to Medieval age and into the realm of Alberto Uzzo.
The Other Side of Heaven is a time traveling romance, one part historical romance, one part time twisting. It's a beautifully told tale, one in which the storytellers clearly have based in history, but with a license for romance and fictionalization. Superb world building, most of the time, I felt like I was there, toiling along with Gwen through the muck and mire of the time. Characters you can fall in love with, and long for justice.
I don't want to say more because this is a must read for romance lovers of all kinds.
Five out of five fairy kisses for this readers.

This book is filled with rich medieval Italian history and intriguing paranormal elements. After the very first chapter with the evil Willa, I knew it was going to be good.
The mixing of real historical figures with fictional characters was so fun to read. The heroine, Gwendolyn, is transported to a world unlike her California seaside own and immediately has to dig deep and find inner courage and determination to survive. Thrust into battle and despair, she's searching for Stefano, the Italian guide who transported with her to this new reality. Along the war torn way, the romance that develops between her and the gallant Alberto sizzles and I can't wait to see what's in store for them in the series.
Stefano has an equally important role in this story from the onset. His scenes are intriguing and gut-wrenching.
Humor is also sprinkled nicely into this book. A scene involving a watch just cracked me up.
If you're looking to transport vicariously through a strong willed heroine, this is the book for you. Counting the days until the second installment! In the meantime, I'll be in Rome with Morgan O'Neill's Roman time travel series!
Our action-packed adventure begins when a witch's curse causes an earthquake, sending spunky heroine Gwendolyn Godwyn and her newly found cousin Stefano into the past. Again, as with the Roman series, Morgan O'Neill's attention to historic detail is impeccable as the reader is catapulted into ancient Italy and into the middle of a political struggle involving Queen Adelaide and Count Beranger. The story is crafted around real figures and events (Alberto, Adelaide, and Beranger and wresting control over Northern Italy) so well that you feel like you're there with Gwen and sharing in this part of history even as she adapts to and takes charge of the harshness of her new reality. The romance is light since Gwen and Alberto are separated for much of the story as they each fight their back to each other. But their love blossoms during their separation, and I can't wait to see it grow in the next book.
First-rate characterization, impeccable historical details interweaved with fictional events, heart-pulsing danger and an organic romance make The Other Side of Heaven another fantastic addition to the time-travel genre.
I am an avid reader of historical novels and was overjoyed at finding such impeccable research and strong historical facts behind the gripping, evocative rendition of this dark and brutal time in history. The reader is not given a choice to read safely from the sidelines. The author's powerful descriptions throw you into the midst of battle, with the sounds of swords clashing, the screams of the wounded and the smell of blood and fear assaulting the senses. Throughout, the sweet song of the growing passion between Gwen and Alberto gives hope to the harsh events which have thrown them together.
I now wait impatiently for the sequel to this book and the opportunity to once more immerse myself into the fascinating times created by Morgan O'Neill.
