Light-hearted musical sex comedy interspersed with 80s-style song and dance numbers, directed by Emilio Martínez-Lázaro. Many farcical entanglements and betrayals unfold between two young and beautiful couples: Javier (Ernesto Alterio) and Sonia (Paz Vega); and Pedro (Guillermo Toledo) and Paula (Natalia Verbeke). Pedro hires a private detective, Sagaz (Ramon Barea), to track Paula after their break-up. Sagaz quickly uncovers her affair with Javier, who is trying to persuade Pedro to ask Pilar (Maria Esteve) out on a date. But Pedro gravitates towards Javier's ex Sonia, although Javier warns him that she is dating lesbian actress Lucia (Nathalie Poza)...
Sex, love, lies, bed-hopping and mistaken identities abound in this pop musical-comedy set in Madrid. The gorgeous Paula (Natalia Verbeke) breaks up with perpetually glum Pedro (Guillermo Toledo) in order to take her affair with Javier (Ernesto Alterio) to the next level. The immature Javier however, is unwilling to break up with Sonia (Sex y Lucia star Paz Vega) or confess their affair to Pedro, who happens to be his best friend. Things get worse when Pedro hires a private detective to find out who Paula is sleeping with, and Javier tries to absolve his guilt by finding him a new girlfriend among his own exes. When Javier and Sonia go off on their own for a romantic weekend, Sonia and Pedro get together to comfort one another, and more complications ensue. Director Martinez-Lazaro sets the comedy, angst, and sexuality to a frothy boil in this crowd-pleaser; it was a big hit in his native Spain. For fans of bedroom-hopping farce and goofy, high-spirited Latin rock musical numbers, this will undoubtedly prove a lot of fun. Vega and Verbeke are amazingly lovely and Maria Eleve is fun as a much-too-talkative girl in love with Pedro. The goofy musical sequences occur in bars, museums, and health clubs; and feature choreography by Pedro Berdayes.

This film talks about friendship and betrayal, but all in a very light vein due to the fact that the people involved can't keep their lies straight. The fact that this movie includes a lot of musical scenes also helps to avoid the gloomy atmosphere that generally pervades in a movie with this kind of subject.
Regarding the actors, they are all quite good in their roles, but in my opinion the real star here was Natalia Verbeke as Paula, a young woman searching for love without being able to find it. I haven't seen many of her movies, but she really shines in this one. The script was also quite good, and there are moments when the spectator thinks he is taking part of a meeting between friends, where the nature of women and relationships is being discussed by men who don't really seem to know too much about either of those subjects. Don't expect enlightening remarks because you won't find them, but be ready to laugh a lot when a casual comment is just too bizarre to let it go without doing something.
On the whole, I think that this film is quite good and I give it 3.5 stars out of 5. It is entertaining, and funny at times, but it isn't the kind of movie you will want to see ten times in a row. All the same, I recommend it to you, because you will probably enjoy this movie a lot if you watch it just once.
All beautiful people... very funny moment is the men's doubles tennis match towards the end.
A great farce... looks stylish... good music... good dancing.

Funny story, though a little far-fetched. Has it's charm and so earns 4 stars. Liked the dialogue and although completely unrealistic, the ending is sound in the world of Paz Vega... Read morePublished on 12 Dec. 2008 by Mr. R. S. Sahota
