Product Description

Review

"This Guide may be the single most valuable item a novice angler can buy ... and most of us would do well to re-read the sections on flies, fly selection, and stream tactics every spring before pulling on our waders for the first time."--Rod & Reel

A good balanced introduction to fly fishing. Would recommend reading this book prior to attending your first lessons with an instructor as you will then be able to glean more from the instructor and at a quicker rate. That said, you could actually fly fish directly from reading this book. The diagrams and photographs are of good quality and the text is well written. Only downside is the text on a particular topic can sometimes be spread over several sections which might be time consuming to then refer back to quickly. I am pleased I purchased this book although I have not seen other similar texts to compare it to. From not knowing anything about fly fishing, I now feel I possess a good broad knowledge on the subject.

This is a good book, if you are a Fly Fisher all rounder. I bought it to hopefully learn something about fishing for trout, specifically wild trout. There is plenty in the book that fitted this bill, but i found that trout fishing was only one subject amongst others, such as Bass Fishing, Salt Water fishing, Steelhead fishing etc. So, as i skipped through the non trout related sections on my Kindle i thought, I am only reading half a book here. That was my mistake though and what parts i did read (i'm not even remotely interested in Salt Water fishing) i found it to be very good. For the all rounders out there, who are happiest in life when flinging a fly to any species of fish, this could be the book for you. Indeed, i think if you live in North America, this book would make a valuable addition to you library.

Bought this book as a gift for somebody interested in learning how to fly fish. Looks informative with good colour pictures. Difficult to comment on the content fully as personally not interested in fly fishing.

This book was purchased as a birthday present for a relative who found it very informative. My husband who is a keen fisherman was so impressed he said he also would like one for Christmas. An excellent book and easy to follow.

As a newcomer to fly fishing I have bought a number of books on the subject recently, this book would have saved a lot of time if I had bought it first. A great book for the beginer and recently revised. Covers all aspects of fly fishing in an easy and enjoyable format.
