4.0 out of 5 stars Used book ok for price 25 Aug. 2013
By Phillip Thompson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book was recommended to me by a historian to answer a specific question. The book did that.. A previous owners had underlined a lot of the text in pen that seriously reduced its value to me. Nevertheless for the price it was a good buy for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection 20 Sept. 2010
By Rosen - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
An attractive, intriguing, and scholarly collection of the origins of World War Two. This is an excellent collection of well-written essays that focuses on many themes and provides a fresh perspective. A very nice addition to any personal library!

1.0 out of 5 stars Asleep in the Classroom 2 Nov. 2010
By Worldwarfanatic - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Unfortunately this book was written for the world of academia and not the average student of World War II.
While certain essays point to causes, others have more to do with the process of disciplines which consider the causes. The section of essays regarding the individual countries are informative, as was said in another opinion of this book, there was a failure to tie the essays into a whole view of the forces that caused the war. Unless you are into boring academic dribble don't bother with this book. I have no idea where they got that name for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars What debate 6 May 2009
By Bonvivant - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
As the book was nothing more than a series of individual essays, each concerning a specific cause for war such as the economy, the poor military intelligence available, the military, and the internal and external dealings of each future combattant, the book failed to serve as an overall review of the various competing views prevelent in today's litererture. As such it failed in it's mission as indicated by it's title.
