The Original McKenzie D-Shape Lumbar Roll was designed by world-renowned physiotherapist Robin McKenzie as part of the McKenzie Lumbar Roll range. When used correctly, this versatile back support cushion can prevent and help to alleviate neck and back pain caused by poor posture. Made to the highest quality and specification, this authentic lumbar roll is recommended for use on soft furnishings such as sofas and lounge chairs. It is also ideal for use in the home, office or car for people who require lots of support, such as those with a heavier build or those with a large hollow in their lower back.
Trusted by experts
Internationally acclaimed physiotherapist and author Robin McKenzie has dedicated his working life to developing innovative and effective solutions to neck and back ailments. Currently used by leading physiotherapists across the globe, this D-Shape Lumbar Roll is the result of 40 years of expertise in successfully treating neck and back problems.
How does it work?
The Original McKenzie D-Shape Lumbar Roll back support cushion promotes normal alignment of the lower back when sitting. The human spine naturally forms an S shape, with the spine curving forwards at the lower back, outwards at the middle back and forwards again at the neck. When we sit we have a tendency to slump, meaning the lumbar spine drops backwards, reversing its natural curve. In this slumped position the muscles at the bottom of the back are stretched, often leading to back and neck pain. The Original McKenzie D-Shape Lumbar Roll can help to prevent and relieve this discomfort by promoting correct posture and the natural 'S' shape of the spine.
Versatile and durable
The Original McKenzie D-Shape Lumbar Roll has a flat back and so can sit comfortably against a chair. The roll is positioned at just above waistband level when sitting, to stimulate you to maintain a better sitting posture. The roll is D-Shaped so the flat back side sits flush to the chair and the curved side mimics the contour of the lumbar spine. Held in place by an elastic strap, the roll is easy and quick to fit to most chairs, so you can move it without difficulty from office to car to dining chair as often as you need.
Firm density for outstanding support
This Original McKenzie D-Shape Lumbar Roll is manufactured from high density foam, giving the product a firm density for ultimate comfort and support.
Designed with you in mind
This innovative D-shaped back support comes with an adjustable elastic strap, to enable it to be fitted to a wide variety of chairs. It also features a soft fleece cover for a luxurious feel, which can be removed for easy cleaning.
The simple, affordable solution for back and neck pain
The Original McKenzie D-Shape Lumbar Roll is ideal for anyone who spends long hours in a seated position, whether driving or sitting at a desk. It can also provide relief for people who suffer from general neck and back pain, postural difficulties, or those who experience neck and shoulder pain when working at a computer.
The Original McKenzie Roll is also available in a variety of shapes and sizes as part of the McKenzie Lumbar Roll Range.

Enter the lumbar roll. I got it because it was inexpensive and thought it would provide good lower-back support while forcing me to sit up straight. It definitely does the job! The lumbar roll is firm so it's not going to flatten quickly. It has a long adjustable strap big enough to fit around one of those big leather executive office chairs (which is what I have). I am quite small myself and was worried that the lumbar roll might be too bulky for me but I actually found that it provides perfect support in the curve of the back and I have a much better seating posture now. I would definitely recommend the cushion for anyone who is having back problems or just wants to correct the way they sit at the desk.
Also a quick note, the cushion is grey in the picture but I actually received it in black - my chair's black so this was a good thing, but just thought I'd mention it incase you had your heart set on the grey.
It's basically a big, firm cushion which comes on an adjustable belt. You can attach this to a chair so that the pad provides lumbar support when you lean back, or if you prefer you can wear it around your waist with the padded part again in your lumbar region, so that support will follow you no matter where you sit (makes you look a bit daft though if you're walking around the office!) I tried using this at home on the sofa and it felt rather uncomfortable, but did help me to keep my back in a better alignment, but when I tried it at work it wasn't a great success. We use swivel typing-style chairs at work, and when I attached the pad to my seat it was uncomfortable, and kept pushing me off the seat so I was constantly fighting it! I've now attached it to my desk chair at home where it is more successful, but still feels too big. I think it could do with being maybe half as thick.
All in all it may work well for some people, but it hasn't been great for me I'm afraid.
The strap does not hold it in position well

My physio recommended this to help with my posture when working at my computer. A little awkward to position on my chair, and it takes some getting used to. Read morePublished 22 days ago by Clem
The belt is unnecessary in the car. The roll is quite firm but squashes and deforms after a while - needs to be regularly turned and plumped up.Published 27 days ago by S. Hill
