The second(!!) ingredient in this product is "potassium alum", i.e. a compound of potassium, aluminium, and phosphate ions coordinated to 12 water molecules, found in nature as a natural mineral deposit.
I tend to use "natural" deodorants because regular ones, particularly when they contain antiperspirants such as aluminium chlorohydrate, irritate my underarms. I tend to avoid aluminium-containing deodorants completely, because even the "crystal" or "pit-rock" type deodorants are little more than a lump of natural alum, (potassium aluminium phosphate), also irritate my skin but to a much lesser degree.
Fortunately despite containing so much aluminium, this deodorant doesn't irritate my arm pits to the point where I would have to stop using it and send it back, so I'm going to persevere but I won't buy again.
As for the deodorant itself, it does what it says on the bottle. Hot weather, long days at work, and martial arts are no match for its pong-suppressing action. I haven't once had an unpleasant aroma in my pits since using this. It seems to stop me sweating, much like a conventional antiperspirant, which leads me to wonder if even potassium alum has a slight effect on the sweat glands, although not as distinct as aluminium chlorohydrate.Read more ›
It clearly states in the marketing that its free from aluminium, which is why I bought it.
the FIRST thing on the ingredient is potassium alum.
The crystal deodorant stones are made from alum. The most widely used form of alum used in the personal care industry is potassium alum. The full chemical name of potassium alum is potassium aluminum sulfate.
The reason that most people try to avoid aluminum in deodorant is because of its possible link to Alzheimer's disease. There is some strong evidence of a link -- for instance, in 1988 a truck driver accidentally dumped 20 tons of aluminum sulfate in to a town's drinking water.
Now, over 20 years later, they are finding a higher incidence of Alzheimer's in the people of this town.
Many doctors such as popular web guru and natural health expert Dr. Mercola suggest avoiding aluminum as much as possible.
I''ve just ordered some Weleda and I'll be trying the Lush products, but this one has been returned and I'm annoyed at having my time wasted by miss-leading advertising.

Keeps you fresh. Shame there's still ingredients in there that don't need to be. I don't think green people are being 'green enough'Published 5 months ago by Jahdmrs
