Buying a Oregon Scientific product is nearly guaranteed to give you a feature no other similar product offers. They produced the projecting clock many years ago and are still leaders in this field. I have tried others, but they are not nearly as good.
This clock also shows the temperature and date and has a back light you can press a button to use. There is an alarm with a snooze button, so it has everything other clocks have but much more.
It is unlikely that I will keep this product if it malfunctions again - I would advise potential purchasers to give this one a miss and spend a little more.
I really liked this clock - it had everything I wanted, 24 hour display, radio controlled time, nice clear display, indoor temperature, good projection display. It looks very pleasing on the eye.
But from the day I received it, it had this intermittent fault where the snooze button would cause the backlight and ceiling projection lamp to come on and stay on. The front panel display would then "freeze" at whatever was displayed at the time. The clock would then not respond to any button from that point. The only way out would be to either remove and reinsert the batteries or press the reset button with a small pointed object.
More information: I set the date and time manually because I wanted the clock to run in 24 hour mode, not 12 hour mode which is the default. Once in 24 hour mode I'd let the radio controlled signal then set the correct time. I operated the unit on batteries.
There seemed to be no pattern to when the problem would strike. I could press the snooze button a few times and it would work properly, then it would freeze. Or I could leave it for a few hours and it would freeze on the first press of the button.
During the 1 day I had the clock it froze 5 times, including twice in the middle of the night when the last thing I wanted to do was mess about resetting the clock to get the display and projection to turn off.
Interestingly, the last time it froze in the middle of the night I didn't bother to manually set the time to 24 hour mode, I just let it default to 12 hour mode. After that, the next 5 or so presses of the snooze button worked properly.Read more ›
