We keep it on the windowsill in the kitchen, where it is visible but unobtrusive.
My wife likes the gentle orange light - non-wakening if you happen to come downstairs in the middle of the night.
It does, of course, come with an outside sensor.
Easy to set up , although as others have found , getting a signal for the automatic clock is a bit hit-and-miss ( but no different from most other devices in that respect )
The temperature gauges are pretty accurate ( about +0.2C different from my old MTR101 , which under-read by about 0.1C compared to a mercury thermometer )
The wireless link between the remote & the base unit is also good , easily getting a signal from over 30' away through a solid concrete wall.
Not too sure about how waterproof the remote is , though , as unlike my old one there's no 'O-ring' seal for the battery compartment lid.
The only complaint I would have is that - again , as reported by others - the 'Ice Alert' light is extremely bright & there appears to be no way to turn it off ( a strip of 'black nasty' over the top of it does the job , though )
It's also now clear that the new remote sensor is compatible with the old base station, and vice-versa. For this reason I am not returning it. I can now have a base station in two locations reading the same remotes.
I hope this information is useful for other owners of the old type, despite research I couldn't find the compatibility info on the internet.
All functions are present and work as expected.
The biggest issue is the design of the internal module - it is rubbish. The designers have tried to be different for the sake of being different and come up with a rubbish product.
First of all, you cannot hang this on the wall - previous models allowed you to do this.
Even when it stands on its own, because of its leaning design, it is most unstable. A gust of wind or similar will knock it down. Additionally, you cannot operate any of the buttons (e.g. light) without holding the unit with one hand and pressing the button with the other.
A good example of how to ruin a decent product.
After having used this for a few months, I have lowered the rating even lower. This is because the external temperature keeps disappearing a few times a day. The external sensor is less than 5 metres away!
I have 2 of these and they both exhibit the same behaviour.
Updated after a few months: I'm still happy with this and it still works well, however, it has a hell of an appetite for batteries. Roughly once a month I have to replace the 3 AA's in the main unit and the single AA in the sender. I've only used Duracell Ultra Power which are good quality batteries. I've knocked 1 star from my review owing to the 40+ batteries it eats each year.
