Who killed the Argyle matriarch...? Rather disliked by many in her family, she has now been murdered. Poor Jack Argyle (her adopted son) has been charged with her murder, sentenced to life imprisonment and has been languishing in a prison cell. Jack falls ill and dies in prison before the only person who can give him a watertight alibi is able to do so (having been suffering from amnesia Dr Calgary has only just realised that he has been holding the key to Jacks' freedom). So Jack was innocent - then the murderer is still at large. Suspicions abound and a tangled web is weaved - suspect everyone. Very much in the vein of the traditional Christie mystery, this tale twists and turns pulling the reader from pillar to post until the denouement, a surprising though logical one, is reached. Not a personal favourite of mine - I didn't much like the premise of the book - it's still a well constructed mystery that will keep you guessing...perhaps until the very end..?

I enjoyed this dramatisation very much I've not heard it as a play before I never watched it on TV when it was done with Miss Marple in it ( I make a point of never watching any Christie's produced with her in them if she was never in the original story, in my opinion they are all good stand alone mysteries and don't need her ) I understand that this was a Christie favourite and quite understand why. It was an excellent production and very well acted

This book kept me guessing right to the end. Intriguing, with an unusual plot, a very entertaining read. Highly recommended.
Excellent read and, although I had an inkling who the guilty person was, the revelation was kept until very near the end.
The characterisation is brilliant and gripping, even though you feel you want to smack the main character !!!!
Great read and it was handy listening to the audio version too. Would very much recommend it to anyone interested in crime novels.
