Our author brings this book, and his orchid essences, to us from the Isle of Gigha in the Inner Hebrides in Argyll, southwest Scotland, about 3 hours from Glasgow, by way of car and ferry boat. The Living TreeOrchid Essences (LTOE) were founded in 1998. They are made WITHOUT cutting or harming the orchids. The "gentle healing energies of the plants are expressed in their blooms and held in bottles of liquid" and are then available to you.
In his lovely book, Don describes everything about the LTOE: how they came to be, how they are made, what they are, how they are used, about Gigha, the people involved, where they are grown (in Gigha), how to choose an essence, how they are related to the healing centers of the body, chakras (subtle energy centers of the body) above the crown (cosmic chakras), AND . . . the descriptions of the healing properties of each essence. As of March 2010, there are 84 essences; 18 of those are combinations. The book actually provides a nicely-sized photo and generally a half to full page description of the healing properties of each essence and the orchid it is from. There is also an abbreviated section toward the back of the book for those who want a quick explanation.
If you decide you are interested, you may purchase individual essences, the set of essences, aura sprays, orchid greeting cards, and orchid photo cards. The greeting cards are each about 5" x 7" (don't have my ruler right now"). The orchid photo covers the entire front. They are blank inside, so you can write your own message. The back of the card tells you what orchid is pictured on the front, a little about it, and the address, phone, website of LTOE. Don also has seminars available in Gigha for those interested.
In my opinion, this book is beautiful and interesting, and I've had my own experiences with this book and the greeting cards. I was particularly enthused by a greeting card of Paphiopedilum Spicerianum, a special little green slipper orchid native to Bhutan, SW China, NE India, Myanamar, and the eastern Himalayas. I have nicknamed him "Green-man". There is a face in this orchid. My energy friends will understand when I say that Green- man, and this entire book, has had an impact on me. His essence is called "Redemptive Dream" and he works with the dream state, allowing one to release some junk. I plan to order Green-man's essence shortly along with other essences and I will treasure this book. It has given me much already. As for Green-man, I am going to frame his picture and hang it in my bedroom!

A REMARKABLE MEDICINE FOR THE AILING HEART AND BODY.
AN ORCHID IN ITSELF.
THIS BOOK OPENED NEW DOORS FOR US.
I came upon the Living Tree Orchid Essences on a whim. My studio is filled with orchids. The room is so suffused with light that if an orchid enters my space, it tends to bloom for six months at a time, if not continuously for years. I was well aware of the uplifting effects of these delicate creatures, so one day when reading a catalogue of healing remedies, I decided to order the full set of Don's essences.
Orchids are the most evolved flowers on the face of the earth. Although many healers use vibrational remedies, few consider the importance of using current vibration. Most of Don's orchid essences have all been made in the past 10 years. In particular, they open not just the well-known seven chakras, but also chakras way above the head, making them ideal essences for balancing our spiritual energies.
This year, Don published Orchid Essence Healing: A Guide to the Living Tree Orchid Essences.
Like many books on flower remedies, Don's manual includes basic descriptions of each remedy. But this book takes the reader many steps further. The book also includes two incredibly useful charts. One describes how each remedy affects each acupunture meridian. Another chart details specific energy centers in the body and the orchid essences that will balance them. For example, two points that I have used for many years include the Gate of Life, or Ming Men. If this point is off in kinesiological testing, a person's will to live is diminished. Another important point is the Shadow Point. If that point is low gear, a person will be constantly struggling with their lower self.
The orchid essences I use most often in my practice include:
Soul Shield - For psychic protection
Internal Cleansing - For the emotional effects of physical detoxification
Being in Grace - For releasing old emotions from the kidney meridian
Positive Outcome - For a more optimistic outlook
Angelic Canopy - For enveloping the aura in peace and calm
Even those who know nothing about healing would be encouraged to purchase Don's lovely book for his 200 color photographs. Don spends 1 ½ to 2 hours every day tending the orchids in his greenhouse. His deep reverence for each flower becomes most obvious in his careful photography.
I love the way author Don Dennis describes how he made the transformation from flower essence distributor to orchid essence creator, largely thanks to being invited by a lovely orchid to "Make an essence with me." While Don may have thought, "you've got the wrong guy," most of us who've been fortunate enough to have been graced with the uplifting benefits of experiencing these essences would vigorously disagree. Orchid Essence Healing provides readers with a history of flower essences and remedies, a journal describing the birth and growth of Living Tree Orchid Essences (LTOE), useful guidance for creating and selecting plant essences, and a gorgeous catalogue of LTOE greeting cards, photo cards, essence tinctures, and sprays.
I love the charts and diagrams included in Orchid Essence Healing that help readers discern how various orchid essences and blended orchid essences interact with the human body's energy centers. Primary and secondary meridian centers are indicated for the orchid essences, so one can see, for example, that Behold the Silence (comparetia macroplectron) works primarily with the heart meridian, and secondarily with the Kidney. Another chart colorfully indicates recommended orchid essences for human chakras, and a third Venn diagram shows the author's perception of vibrational essences and how various remedies relate to enhancers.
Before reading this book, I was unclear about the differences between Bach Flower Remedies and Orchid Flower Essences. Orchid Essence Healing explains that the differences are numerous. I've now come to understand that Orchid Flower Essences are created with active participation from living flowers, in such a way that their life force energies are given with each flower's blessing into dishes of water lovingly placed under each blossom in a special quiet room designated for this 'temple activity.' While Bach Flower Remedies work on lower vibrational life issues, Orchid Flower Essences take the recipient to some of the highest vibrational points... typically attainable otherwise only after years of concentrated meditative effort.
I've personally tried three of the Living Tree Orchid Essences (LTOE) described in Orchid Essence Healing, and each of these works consistently, powerfully, and nearly instantaneously. I can't find enough superlatives to adequately convey the sense of peace, calm, love, joy, groundedness, connection, wisdom, clarity, protection and guidance that comes through these 1.5 ounce bottles of orchid healing.
I greatly admire the tremendous generosity of heart and spirit shared by Don Dennis, as he describes in exquisite detail just how one might create one's own floral and plant essences. Reading his book, I feel like Don is personally inviting me on a journey of exploration and wonder to see the flowers and gardens around me open my eyes to a whole new sense of the intelligence of the plant kingdom around me.
I love Orchid Essence Healing for the tremendous beauty of the orchid photographs that grace most every page of this book. I love the descriptions of the Latin names alongside orchid portraits and accompanied by intuitive insights regarding the gifts each of these orchid essences shares.
This book is a must for anyone who loves orchids, alternative healing, meditation, and spirituality.
