I bought this new collection of Orb rareities this weekend and have enjoyed listening to these decent outtakes and different sounding tracks. I had already heard Ralph's Cupboard in it's Ralf guise and Ba'albeck in it's Freely Wheely guise, not sure why the name change but shouldn't let it detract from the music.

In total three tracks from this collection were destined for the album Cydonia, but it was put on hold and Alex Paterson and co created some new tracks which were deemed more up to date than the three tracks here so they were cast aside in the final version of Cydonia which came out in 2001. If the album had come out in 1999 it would have looked and sounded radically different, Cydonia became a mismatch of different sounds sort of a 1997-1999 Orb sound and a 2000-2001 Orb sound.

Any way I digress these three tunes are excellent if not ground-breaking and I suppose Alex Paterson felt ultimately they sounded dated for when Cydonia eventually came out and wanted to give the album a contemporary feel.

I have enjoyed this collection very much and as a big fan of The Orb I enjoy the majority of their material and I too am looking forward to next album 'The Dream'.

For volume 2 of this out-takes trilogy, Dr Alex and Malicous Damage dip into the archives again for some more treats.

This collection carries on the good work shown on volume 1 and, as it contains 3 of the tracks that amazingly didn't make it to the original version of Cydonia in 2000/2001, there seems to be a more unified feel to these tracks.

Ralph's Cupboard, Ba'albeck and Jam On Your Honey are all great (whatever name they are called) and what with Shem, It's A Small World, The Great Bolster and the superb 2026 all included, this is a must for Orb fans.

I have to say that in answer to some of the earlier reviews, I for one think it is great that Malicious Damage have got together with Dr Alex to get this together because I am sure there are quite a few fans that have not been able to listen to some of these tracks before for whatever reason - so I think it is far from lazy to put them on here as they have not been legitimately released before.

Lazy is certainly not a word that you can use for the packaging as it is as fantastic as normal from Mike Coles and MD, and the sound of the CD is fantastically crisp and clear.

The Orb make music like no other and this album only serves to whet the appetite for volume 3.

I've bought this because I'm really "ORBsessed" but at the date this is one of the best albums from Alex Paterson & Co. While they're trying to reach the charts again with "The Dream" in this work you can find wonderful out-takes, exploring at their best electronic music. No more words: if you are a "fine conoisseur" you can't miss it.

Well this is great!
I'm a big fan and have all of their material, albums, EPs, compilations, the lot and this is a consistent affair with plenty of ambient dub packed in as opposed to the last Orbsessions, which I thought was held very loosely together. The material sounds like it belongs mostly from the Orblivion/Orbus Terrarum era, and yes, there are some abstract pieces dotted here and there, but if you're an electronica fan then you should have no problem with them.
I like Orb when they're doing their German minimalist approach, when they're shredding TV and Radio broadcasts, when they're in space and whatever, and I think this works very well as an album.
If you like their earlier stuff, then this should be right up your street.
