Oral-B Professional Care has been carefully designed to offer you and your family a unique brushing experience that is both safe and effective. For clean teeth and strong and healthy gums, Oral-B Professional Care gently cleans in areas where plaque bacteria can collect. It provides outstanding plaque removal even in hard-to-reach areas and is gentle on teeth and gums.
The Professional Care 500 rechargeable toothbrush has the same 3D pulsation and rotation cleaning as the rest of the range, for significant plaque removal. The waterproof handle is electrically safe and is designed for use in the bathroom. Plug the charging unit into an electrical outlet and place the toothbrush handle on the charging unit.
For optimal brushing results, Oral-B Professional Care removes up to twice as much plaque as other toothbrushes by pulsating 20,000 times and rotating 7,600 times per minute, oscillating in and out to thoroughly surround teeth, breaking up plaque and moving it away.
A short stuttering sound at 30-second intervals, which you can hear and feel, reminds you to brush the four quadrants of your mouth equally for a thorough consistent clean. A long stuttering sound indicates when the dentist recommended two-minute brushing time has been reached.

And despite the fact my partner has had a Braun toothbrush for years, I've never bothered to join the home clan.
Anyway, I've given in and now the wonders of hindsight make me wish i bought one sooner!
I've never had bad teeth, (my dentist tells me I'm looking after them well), so again the "expense" of an electric one was off putting. But the fact is, this brush has given me far better results despite my dentist's praise! I always had an area of my front teeth that suffered from plaque, and no amount of brushing would remove it - that would be done by my dentist. But, literally after three uses of this brush, it's removed it! I'm impressed just by that alone. Aside from that, it massages the gum-line, and managed to clean right in between my teeth, which feels great after you've cleaned them.
The only real drawback is the cumbersome method of brushing. Obviously you don't have to scrub back-and-forth like a normal toothbrush, but you are holding an electronic device in your mouth and moving it around, which basically means you dribble into the sink while cleaning. But, I can live with that if it continues to clean my teeth well!
I can't tell you how long the heads last for, but I know a pack of replacement are about a fiver. I'd happily buy these every other month.
So, that's about it - I'm happy, it works very well, and i'd recommend it.
This oral-b brush gives a lovely clean and you can really feel that your teeth are "squeaky" clean after you use it! The pulse timer goes off every 30 seconds so that you know to move on to the next section of teeth. (It surprised me that I felt I needed a bit longer than 30 seconds though - I end up spending longer than the recommended 2 minutes on my teeth now!)
My main issue with the brushhead provided (you get 1 included) is that it's just too hard for my sensitive teeth (I think it's the yellow floss action bits in the brush). My dentist recommended that I use a soft brush so I need to investigate what brush heads are available before I carry on using it on a regular basis. But the good thing is the ability to use different head types on the rechargeable base.
Overall a great brush - and a good price :)
Apart from battery life we would recommend this product to anyone. Update still have to charge brushes twice a week only now have to share 1 charger as wife's charger has stopped working just after guarantee run out. Would have thought a name like Braun would have produced better quality charger.
However, there is a problem.
This model is twice the price (at the moment - Aug 2011) of the same brush body with a different head. It gets worse as the head the other one comes with a head I would consider as better. As someone that flosses regularly (daily!) the head on this brush is OK but I miss the 'cupping action' of the smaller head; it's certainly not a replacement for good old-fashioned flossing. The other challenge for this model is that even if you fancy trying the Floss Action head you can buy one for MUCH less than the difference between the two brushes. Of course if you do get this model you can buy standard heads if you don't like the Floss Action, but you've still spent more than you needed too.
The bottom line - if you're new to electric brushes then get the Pro Care 500 brush that is half the price, you won't be disappointed. Oral B make great brushes and my dentist always comments on how good my teeth are looking and Oral B electric brushes are all I've used for 20 years.
