These Oral B AA battery operated toothbrushes are excellent for everyday use or for when going on holiday. Admittedly, not as light as a manual toothbrush but then they won't add a huge amount of weight to your luggage either.
The only issue with them is that you need to be careful with the battery cover - some have stated that it cracks easily. The battery cover can get broken if you try to close it unevenly: there are 2x catches on the inside of the toothbrush that have to be squeezed together from the outside in order to hold the battery cap on. The catches can be a little difficult to squeeze together, but if you put the battery cap on, then place the toothbrush on a flat surface, squeeze the catches together whilst pressing down this works fine. The moment you try to force the cap over the catches without squeezing them together or not having the cap level is when the cap can split/crack.
Invest in some re-chargeable AA batteries. You'll save on the cost of Alkaline batteries.
Apart from the aforementioned small issue - its an excellent product.
This Oral-B Advance Power toothbrush is an excellent choice for your money it really is. The unit takes two batteries which are inside a waterproof compartment in the handle, so you don't need a charging dock for it. I can't speak to battery life so far as I've only been using mine for three weeks, but the batteries are still going strong. It has a round head that vibrates, which doesn't look that impressive compared to more expensive and fancy-featured models but once it's inside your mouth you will be surprised at how effective it is. It cleans as well as my previous disposable brush, perhaps better because the smaller head allows you to get right in to the small gaps and awkward spaces.
I keep mine next to the sink, and the only thing that I was disappointed by was a lack of protective cap or brush shield. I tend to buy the travel caps and place one of those on it during the day just to keep the brush protected from nasty things like flies or being splashed or dropped. This doesn't come with anything like that, and as it's an awkward shape I had to cut my normal travel case with a knife to make it fit as best I could. If that sort of thing is important to you just beware and prepare something as I did.
For the price (under £10) this toothbrush seems to be a really excellent little unit, judging by other reviews people say it's reliable, and replacing the heads is easy.Read more ›
There is no use using cheap batteries because they will not last - buy cheap batteries and get cheap results - and then people blame the product. Wise up people and use AA Lithium batteries. Our toothbrushes have lasted 7 months on these batteries. We have found that the brushing time is less because of the efficiency of this brush and 30 secs of brushing is all the time needed. The replacement heads are freely available and inexpensive both in two head and single head configuration.
