The Optoma HD131X Full 3D 1080P projector brings together Full High Definition 1080p resolution and fully integrated 3D technology, capable of producing a 1080p 3D image up to 300 inches in size (diagonally).
Live 3D sports and 3D gaming are not to be missed on this projector, whilst watching 3D movies is the closest thing you’ll get to the cinema in your own home. The cinema setting produces well balanced and realistic colour reproduction with rich black tones and bright whites that complement the clarity of detail offered by the HD131X, which has an astonishing contrast ratio of 20,000:1 – essential for reaching the optimum image quality of any film. The menu is user friendly and makes it simple to choose from a range of modes and settings including colour, contrast, brightness and more. In the reference setting colours can be muted for a more natural effect.
The HD131X excels in 2D and 3D performance, with a distinct lack of crosstalk – an advantage of DLP technology’s fast response time, in comparison to alternative projector technologies. Colours display vividly, whilst darker areas of the image do not suffer with low contrast dullness and have deep black levels that add a true sense of depth and a remarkable amount of shadow detail, making blockbusters much more immersive. Lighter scenes are not compromised, with strikingly bright images visible even with ambient lighting present in the room, allowing you to enjoy movies and live sports any time of day.
The projector chassis has an attractive glossy black finish which complements the boldly curved body and hard lines of the casing. In addition to suiting a home cinema aesthetically, the HD131X is also one of the smallest 1080p projectors on the market. An advantage that is exclusive to DLP technology, which is traditionally small and lightweight, compared to other technologies. With dimensions of 324x234x97mm (WxDxH) the HD131X is coffee table-friendly and easily mountable; There is housing for a universal ceiling mount, of which Optoma provide a full range.
In summary, the 2000 ANSI lumens brightness, fully integrated 3D technology, extensive HD connectivity, 24P operation, superior ANSI contrast and 10W speakers all cumulate to an outstanding 1080p projector, but it’s the affordability of this product that really make you appreciate these features.
Fully Integrated 3D Technology
Create a vivid 3D cinema experience in your own home cinema, gaming room or lounge. It’s widely accepted that the bigger the image, the greater the 3D effect. For the best results it is essential to fill your field of vision, without being too close to the screen. A 50” 3DTV can only create a window into the 3D world, whereas the HD131X can create up to a 300” (diagonal measurement) cinema experience. All 3D technology is built into the unit and requires no additional adapters – just link it to a 3D source via HDMI.
Now that 3D movies have arrived on Blu-ray 3D you can enjoy 3D 1080p, played through a Blu-ray 3D player or 3D enabled games console. Movies projected by the HD131X have a notable contrast during darker scenes and ensure that 3D images have an intelligible perception of depth. In support of fully integrated 3D technology, a Full HD native resolution of 1920 x 1080 cinematically processes HD sources. Leaving images looking clear and detailed and more importantly, judder free.
‘24P’ also known as ‘24 frames per second’ is the video format that most films are traditionally shot in. Most televisions can’t display video at this rate, so in order to preserve the purity of the original image the HD131X can accept High Definition sources at 24 frames per second. Therefore, you can watch movies exactly as the director intended.
Bring a level of realism to game play that simply cannot be reached by a 3D monitor or television. The HD131X will generate an impeccable 3D active-motion gaming experience; the closest thing to your very own virtual reality suite, creating depth and dimensionality that ultimately leads to greater immersion and a more realistic gaming simulation.
With more sport and live fixtures being broadcast in 3D every year, you can enjoy the greatest moments in sporting history in Full 3D 1080p from the comfort of your own home.
For a seamless 3D experience, use our second generation wireless 3D glasses the Optoma ZF2100 3D system and 3D glasses (required for displaying and viewing 3D media, sold separately). Developed in parallel with the Optoma ‘Full 3D’ projector range, the ZF2100 system and 3D glasses provide you with a higher contrast and brighter image than ever before. Whilst commonly experienced issues using infra-red issues such as emitter placement, limited range and interference are now eliminated. The ZF2100 3D glasses are fully rechargeable.
The two HDMI v1.4a digital inputs are a big benefit of the HD131X; Games consoles, Blu-ray players or digital television set top boxes can be simultaneously connected via HDMI, making switching between sources literally the push of a button, as opposed to awkward manual switching. Along with other standard video inputs, twin D-Sub PC ports can also be useful for gamers and those connecting from a laptop or PC. The 3D-sync port can connect an Optoma ZF2100 System – required for 3D viewing (sold separately).
The HD131X comes complete with built-in speakers that deliver a remarkably high 10W, with exceptional sound quality, keeping dialogue, narration and commentary clear. Despite the small dimensions of the projector, a level of audio is created that can easily fill a home cinema or living space. Audio input connections are also available on the interface, which allow connection to external sound systems.
If the projector is accidentally switched off, the ‘Quick Resume’ function can instantly power the projector up again. If Quick Resume is selected within a period of 100 seconds, you can save time by not waiting for the projector to cool down before it can switched on again.
Back-lit IR remote control with batteries, lens cover, AC power cord, quick-start card, CD user manual and warranty card.

Optoma 3D glasses: Optoma ZD201 DLP-Link 3D Glasses

Mounting bracket: PROJECTOR CEILING MOUNT BRACKET UNIVERSAL UP TO 10KG in BLACK
First off! Dont buy the cheaper Sainsonic 3D glasses! They DO NOT WORK properly with this projector.
Also get a decent set of high quality HDMI cables otherwise you will get problems when trying to play 3D content at 1080p Full HD! Details above of the ones that I purchased.
I was debating for quite some time if to upgrade to a 1080p projector and if the costly upgrade would make a difference. Well the positive reviews about the HD131X are indeed correct. The HD131X produces a sharp, vivid and very bright image and at 25feet distance from the projector screen size of 250" the quality is simplying amazing!! I was particuarly surprised by the 2000 lumens output which seemed to produce just as bright an image as my older projector which outputted 2500 lumens! In fact I had to turn the brightness down on the new projector and even put the lamp into eco mode as it was that bright. The extra detail produced by a 1080p signal is amazing as you can clearly see very fine detail such as the fabric within clothing or the texture of a person's skin. Contrast and black levels are equally impressive where fine detail which is usually lost in shadows are now easily resolved.
The upgrade from 720p to 1080p is simply stunning when you play a bluray film one which was specifically filmed using full HD technology not to mention a CG animated film such as 'The Pirates in an Adventure with scientists'.
To get the best out of this projector I had to use a ceiling mount bracket in order to directly line up the projected image to that of my projector screen some 25feet away. Lining up the HD131X projector is very important so that the lens is dead centre to that of the projector screen. I noticed on this model in the menu setup that there was no option to shift horizontally or vertically the projected image as was the case with my older projector and im not sure why this feature is not available on this newer model??. This means that you have to install the projector along with a ceiling mount bracket that can shift, tilt, pivot and twist to perfectly align the image within the projector screen. You can buy a universal ceiling mount but you might want to try and get hold of the offical Optoma version for a better fit. PROJECTOR CEILING MOUNT BRACKET UNIVERSAL UP TO 10KG in BLACK
Fan noise seems to be very good and I dont know why some people are complaining about this?? Perhaps its because I have my AV sound system blasting out 7.1 surround sound :-)
The projector does not come with the mounting screws so you need to purchase a small bag of machine screws M3 of max 10mm length. These can be obtained from the web or from a DIY place such as B&Q.
I also ordered a pair of SainSonic glasses but I am experiencing various sync issues. SainSonic(TM) 3D Active Rechargeable Shutter Glasses for DLP-Link Projector *WIRELESS*(NOT FOR TVs) Despite the company contacting me to state that the glasses should work I have had constant syncing problems. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY BUYING CHEAPER 3D GLASSES! GO AND BUY THE OFFICIAL OPTOMA 3D GLASSES here: Optoma ZD201 DLP-Link 3D Glasses The Optoma glasses work perfectly everytime and the quality is what you would expect and just like in the cinema!
If you are connecting the Optoma HD131X via a PC in order to view 3D bluray content you will need the following:
NVidia GTX graphics card. (I was using a GTX 285)
Bluray Playback software. I was using Total Media Theatre v5
NVidia Play - this is critical in order to get 3D content to work!
You will also need to install NVidia Play. Theres a 14 day free trial period. You need to install NVidia Play otherwise 3D will not work with this projector. Once you have installed Nvidia Play in the Nvidia Control Panel you will see a 3D Resolution setting. One for 1080p and the other for 720p. Ensure that your projector is set to Top and Bottom 3D mode and DLP link is selected in the projector menu system. I am experiencing problems getting the projector to goto 1080p 3D and I can only get a 720p resolution but this is down to the graphics card going via a DTS sound card so suspect the lead that connects the two is not HDMI 1.4a.
I am also using the projector with a Samsung BD Player Samsung BD-F5500 3D Network Blu-ray and DVD Player (New for 2013) and the quality output is equally impressive both in 2D and 3D. The benefit I can see of going with a dedicated BD Player is that you do get full 1080p 3D!
If you are connecting your BD Player via your AMP (via HDMI) make sure that inside the AMP GUI menu you set the Audio output to just AMP and not AMP+TV! Otherwise the BD Player will down sample the output to low quality PCM instead of Dolby HD 7.1
Finally you will need a proper set of HDMI high quality cables!! I ended up wasting money on cheaper ones even though they stated HDMI v1.4a. DONT BOTHER!! GO AND BUY PROPER HDMI cables (ones which are properly insulated and have a 15GB throughput otherwise your projector will not work properly in Full HD 1080p 3D! especially running it through a 7.1 AV audio sound system!! I can highly recommend these HDMI cables: 5METER PRO GOLD RED (1.4a Version, 3D, 15.2Gbps) HDMI TO HDMI CABLE WITH ETHERNET,COMPATIBLE WITH 1.3c,1.3b,1.3,1080P,PS3,XBOX 360,SKYHD,VIRGIN BOX,FULL HD LCD,PLASMA & LED TV's AND ALSO SUPPORTS 3D TVS. A word of advice: If you buy a cheaper HDMI cable or ones which state HDMI 1.4a be careful! Not all HDMI leads which claim to support 3D will work and there are several on Amazon which clearly dont work despite the product description stating otherwise! You need to ensure that your HDMI cable can support enough bandwidth and this is measured in GBs. The ones that work properly are those with a throughput of 15GB's and are 1.4a.
This projector is well worth the money. Dont hesitate to get one!!
I watched the picture quality of Optoma HD20 at my friend's place and immediately made a decision to buy one for myself. I researched a bit on other brands but either the reviews were not good or was very expensive (made by Epson).
So my shortlist had only 2 items Optoma HD25 and Optoma HD131X. The only difference between HD25 and HD131X is that HD25 is delivered with one 3D glasses (please check in your order). The price difference between the two was about £150 so I went for HD131X.
I've tested the projector under following categories and here's my review
Delivery : 5* (by Amazon!)
Blacks : 5*
Whites : 5*
Colors : 5*
HD : 4.5* (I still need to play around with settings)
3D : Not tested yet, will update once I have watched a 3D movie
Overall picture quality : 4.5* (I didn't get the vow factor but I'm very pleased with the picture quality).
Fan : Its not the quietest but not loud either. With all projectors you should expect the noise from the fan.
Power cable : small, not enough if you need to keep it in the centre of the room, you'll need an extension.
Other cables : No other cables are provided.
Manual : Only a quick start guide is provided.
