5.0 out of 5 stars crystal clear 9 Jan. 2014
By Turtleman - Published on Amazon.com

Excellent !
It is rare to have such clarity in grad level textbook.
Everything is crystal-clear, and the examples use step-by-step approach.
You can "understand" the topic, instead of blindly using the equations in highlighting box.
I have another textbook required by class,
but this book is the one I use to teach myself.

One thing it is missing is that it doesn't cover LQG.
However, I think it is minor problem, compared to the quality of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to Optimal Controls 1 Aug. 2010
By R. Mendonsa - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
A very useful guide for professional and graduate students involved in control systems.
It is more of a theoretical book and requires prior knowledge of basic control systems. The problems are more mathematically based and there is a lack of linkage to practical use.
The examples are great and can be easily implemented in Matlab.
Also, the author is quite approachable.
4.0 out of 5 stars really very nice book 12 Nov. 2011
By just_me - Published on Amazon.com

The book is very readable. It is one of
the best books in this area and very appropriate for self-study.
The only things bothers me are the unnormal mathematical conventions like:

(df/dx)_(evaluated ax x*) is shown as
(df/dx*) kind-things.

Hence, I gave 4 stars instead of 5 :)
