Product Description

Now you can take close-up shots like you've never taken before. Opteka proudly presents the next generation of HD² Macro lenses. These Close-Up diopters, which just like filters are simply screwed onto the front of the existing camera lens, permits taking super close-ups and makes possible the photography of details which would be otherwise impossible. The built-in lens on most digital cameras cannot focus on any object closer than a certain minimum distance. The Opteka close-up lens set, which is simply mounted in the front of the cameras built-in lens, permits the taking of extreme close-ups in stunning detail. The easy to use solution for getting extra close. This lens will enable you to get much closer than the minimum focus of the standard camera lens - as close as 4 inches from the subject. Ideal for cataloging small items and focusing on details.
Your pictures are only as good as the glass in your lens.
Nothing changes the way you see the world like High Definition², and no company does High Definition² like Opteka. In the professional setting, Opteka's glass optics defines High Definition. Change the way you view the world. Enjoy outstanding detail, enjoy enhanced clarity, enjoy Opteka.
Advances in high-index / low-dispersion optical glasses, new barrel materials, and exotic anti-reflection coatings, along with the latest in computer-aided-design / computer-aided-manufacturing, are combined to produce lenses of unprecedented quality. Diamond-cut from crystal-clear, water-white optical glass, Opteka lenses are ground and polished to a precise precision.
Opteka lenses stand up to the most rigorous demands on the stage and on location. Opteka's hard anti-reflective (AR) coating offers protection specially formulated to resist flaking, peeling and scratching. This proprietary AR coating also reduces light loss and flare to less than 1% per surface, compared to untreated glass which has a light loss of 4% per surface.

Very good to start learning about Close-Up Photography. Fair price, shipping cost to high. Should be in everyone's camera bag. ;-)

HASH(0x91bbb7bc) out of 5 stars Quality for the Price 12 Sept. 2009

What you get here are four lenses, each wrapped in protective plastic, and a soft carrying case that can fit in many camera bags (it even fits in mine, a Lowepro EX-120). I don't have much to compare this to except some old Tiffen lenses that fit on an older Kodak camera, but to my eyes, they work great. I'm shooting through a Canon Powershot S1 IS with the adaptor ring. I didn't notice much difference with just a +1 lens, but with all of them attached, I could take close-ups of coins and other tiny objects. The images turned out sharp, and I have no complaints. If you wanted better quality I think you'd have to spend quite a bit more money.

HASH(0x91bbba20) out of 5 stars Amazing Accessory 16 Mar. 2009
By Curtis M. Kularski - Published on Amazon.com
Received this item as a gift. The close up filters work great. I used to use an Opteka macro lens on my compact digital camera, but it just didn't work on my new Nikon D60 (too short a depth of field). This kit gives me the advantages of the macro lens, but with a lot more control over the depth of field. If you have ever even thought about doing close up shots of flowers, bugs, or anything, this is a great accessory.
HASH(0x91bbb99c) out of 5 stars Degrades images 12 Sept. 2009

I got this set to use with my Panasonic Lumix G1 and 45-200 lens. The first thing I noticed was the filters were filthy (about par for cheap filters). Also, there was a spot on the +1 and a big smudge on the +2 that would not come off. I was able to autofocus well through the filters.

However, the image quality degraded when using the filters. It was the equivalent of losing resolution--going in 1:1 showed blurry pixels instead of crisp ones. I asked for a refund and got one from the seller. If you care about image quality, try another brand. Right now, so far so good with the Tiffen set.

Rating: two stars because it is functional.

I'm new to the SLR family of photography and have much to learn. I primarily shoot homebrew construction projects pertaining to Amateur Radio antenna and mast design. The Opteka 52mm Close-Up Lense set was just what I needed for cataloguing integral connections for future reference. My thanks to 47th Street Photo for their excellent customer service.
