I adored this book and more than anything I have a serious crush on the hero, Killian. He's a grumpy, sometimes rude genius chef but this man is so wonderful through all of that. I had a crush on him early on and it just got worse and worse. This book is aided by such a likeable heroine, Vera. She was on a journey, finding her strength, self esteem and realigning her life goals. The chemistry was wonderful.
I adore the cover and the story lived up to it. I dropped it half a star because I just wanted a little more towards the end but I am mostly satisfied. I cannot wait for book two because Ezra and Molly are going to sizzle, I can just tell.
The Opposite of You has all the elements to make it the same generic story we’ve all heard before, however there was just something that made it stand out. It felt fresher and brighter that other stories I’ve read of this type. I really like the food/chef element. The being in competition with each other, that made for a different take on a romance.
Here we see the story of chefs Vera Delane and Killian Quinn, both very different chefs. Killian is a Michelin starred chef in the very upmarket restaurant Lilou. Vera owns a food truck called Foodie which is parked across the street from the restaurant, in front of her brother’s bike shop car lot. Vera is back from Europe after fleeing an abusive relationship to look after her sick father. She opens Foodie believing this to be her last chance at making a go of it in the food business.
Killian feels she’s his competition and at first cannot stand Vera. He tells her the food truck wouldn’t work and to quit. As you can imagine Vera doesn’t like that and sets out to prove him wrong.
As time goes by though things change and feelings develop.
I absolutely fell in love with this book. There was so much tension and a will they won’t they vibe. The chemistry was electric and totally hot. The sex wasn’t overly descriptive and I like that here because too much would have literally been too much here.
The banter and camaraderie was really refreshing too and I found myself laughing and being thoroughly entertained throughout. So few books actually make me belly laugh and I found myself doing this at times.
I really enjoyed the back build of the secondary characters and will look forward to their story too.
I cannot wait to read more by this author and would highly recommend this book to any contemporary romance fan.
This is my first book by the talented Rachel Higginson and what a way to pop my cherry! When I first opened this book I wasn't sure what to expect but what I got was a sexy, feel good romance that had me hooked from the very beginning.
It was witty and clever and the slow burn romance was just what I needed.
Leading lady Vera was very likeable and very funny. I loved getting to know her character as she struggled to find her place as a chef once more. Help, however comes in the form of rival, Killian Quinn and the pair form an unlikely friendship. The pair have undeniable chemistry and I enjoyed watching their relationship blossom from hate to love.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The writing style and the plot kept me turning the pages to find out what happened next.
My only issue and it's a very small issue was a lack of drama and angst from her ex boyfriend who appeared quickly and disappeared even quicker. I would have liked to see that story line developed a little bit more but other than that it is a very good book, I would recommend you one click.
I really enjoyed this romance. It had lashings of Rachels noteable wit, at points I laughed out loud and at others my eyes were filled with tears. Its well written and I will read anything further produced in this series.
