Throughout the title there is a wealth of high quality images of the eyes and retina for the reader/student to use and the level of detail covered is certainly to the level required. The book contains a good overview of Ophthalmology from normality of the eyes and vision, to visual assessment, impact of vision and oaf loss on life till finally a useful discourse on a variety of ophthalmological conditions that a student could expect to encounter either in practice or during examinations.
In addition there is a useful website that accompanies the new edition of the title, this website includes a useful set of Flashcards based upon each chapter, there are also downloadable images from the book for the student to use. Finally the website includes a set of 10 cases with accompanying questions for the student to be able to undertake to assess their knowledge and understanding of the content of the book.
The disadvantage of this title however I would say as that in some cases the depth of knowledge may not be fully sufficient. Otherwise I would say that there are no other real disadvantages posed by this title.
In conclusion, this title should prove to be a highly useful addition to a medical students library of titles, there are very few other useful Ophthalmology books available to the student and not many with such a wealth of images available. Why not get a copy of this title out of your medical school library if it is available.

Each topic has a double page spread, with simple, clear diagrams and photos supported by explanatory text that even I can understand - and topics range from the most basic to what seem to me to be quite esoteric!
there is even a guide as to how to use the book.
I would say that I have struck lucky here; not only is this book extremely useful, but the "at a Glance" range of books from Wiley would seem to be a boon to medical students and those requiring quick reference information - and more accessable than going on line and Googling.
What I like about the book is the large number of illustrations, including photos, diagrams and radiological images. The pages are well laid out and the text is detailed but concise. There is a particularly good section on neuro-ophthalmology with excellent explanations of afferent pupil defects, cranial nerve palsy, visual field defects etc.
The only disadvantage to this book is that it is a bit large to carry around on wards, in clinics etc. However it is relatively slim and lightweight and could be carried in a folder with lecture notes and similar. It is also easier than carrying a general textbook around just for the ophthalmology section.
Overall a well written and well illustrated ophthalmology textbook with sufficient detail for medical students on clinical placement. It would also be an excellent starting point for junior doctors working in ophthalmology, general practice or A&E who wish to revise their examination skills and ensure their core ophthalmology knowledge is good.
This book is ideal for quick reference, as a revision aid or to consolidate knowledge. All in all, good value for what it offers.
