I'd almost forgotten about Toploader, saw them on tour once just after release of Onkas Big Moka and thought that they were destined for stadiums. Then came Magic Hotel and little else. I've always been a little wary of reviewers comments on comeback albums, especially when you see an abundance of 5 star reviews. Is it just praise from a group of hardcore fans.

In the case of Only Human, I'm astonished. Bought the album on a whim, hoping for something average. This is utterly incredible, what an amazing album. If you like Coldplay, Keane, even shades of the more recent outings from A-ha. Not a bad track on this album, am now looking forward to the tour.

So who saw this coming?! A new record, a new sound.. great!

I must of been one of their earliest fans.. used to trawl round small venues on the south coast in Brigthton and Southampton before they had had a hit.. still got a limited press of Achilles Heel signed by the guys somewhere.. were exciting times! :)

I remember I really thought they were going to be the biggest band about and then stuff just.. happened.

In a way they became too big, Dancing in the Moonlight killed them really.. I remember being frustrated even by Onka's Big Moka.. they were clearly being pushed along poppier routes than their live act suggested they were. If you track down their early B-Sides you'll know what I mean. Lucy, This is our Home, Big as a House, Jack, Alien.. the original Cloud 9 all proved the guys rocked.. that they were only known for Moonlight and Jamie Oliver was a source of constant irritation to me.

ANYWAY... out with the old, in with the new.

What a success of a record this is!! I'm so glad to say.. I really didn't think Magic Hotel had much to offer and have tried to check what Joe Washbournes been up to these past few years, waiting for the return and finally, here it is and its nothing short of great.

Its clearly got a very "now" sound.. if you like Coldplay etc then you'll like it..

There are some great songs here.. "Closure" I think being my favourite.. love the chorus. There aren't actually any weak tracks and there isn't to be honest much variation. They've found a sound they like and stuck to it! But its a good sound, took me a couple of listens to adjust too and yeah, I can safely say its great.

Its not 5 stars.. but that's no crime.. The Beatles made 5 Star records..

Have had Toploader's 'Onka's Big Moka' and 'Magic Hotel' for years and was pleasantly surprised to hear about this new CD being released. Sampled the tracks before I bought it and couldn't wait to hear the whole CD. Brilliant. They've managed to retain their unique sound (lead singer's voice is always so distinctive)whilst coming back with a new freshness to their music. I would highly recommend it. I was going to list my favourite songs on the CD then realised I couldn't choose-they're all great!

After replaying Toploader's fantastic first album 'Onka's Big Moka' over and over and over I couldn't wait for their newest installment after their second album, 'Magic Hotel' never lived up to the high expectations for it, although I did think it was great, just never lived up to their first album. I can happily say that, this time, I am incredibly surprised at the fantastic music they have produced third time around. The highly anticipated single 'Never Stop Wondering' was a catchy and great tune to re-introduce the once forgotten band. Even more impressive was the fact the lead singer Joseph Washbourn still had his incredible vocal chords still perfectly in tune!

The song 'A Balance To All Things' reminded me of a Coldplay song slightly, great chorus and piano throughout, just as catchy as the single. I could review each song individual, but the fact is that they are all brilliant! Another song worth a mention is the great closing track 'Numb', absolutely amazing to listen to and closes a perfect album.

This album is a must have for EVERY Toploader fan, old or young! It is the great follow up to their first album that was sadly missed around 8 years later. Well worth the wait though, you wont be disappointed.

First saw and heard Toploader at Wembley Stadium in 2000, where they were supporting Bon Jovi. Amazingly, or maybe not so amazingly in view of the quality of the tunes and vocals they got an ovation, the public were loudly requesting yet another song but they had to let Bon Jovi on stage. Since then, despite the ups and downs, they still have the magic touch and this album is just as entertaining as the others, if a little different. Brilliant!

The first time I heard a Toploader song was on a Jamie Oliver show. You know...THAT song. It's probably been an albatross round their necks - great song, but that's all most people remember them for. And they didn't write it.

They defied categorisation, and you may have forgotten about them. But great music is great music, and this album is exactly that. In fact, if you only buy one album this year, make it "Only Human".

11 perfect songs, from the guitar-riff-driven opener "Marrakech" through to the slow ballard "Paradise", and the sublime title track (their finest song to date, in my opinion). Throw in a couple of great singles, "Never Stop Wondering" and "A Balance to All Things" and that's just for starters.

The now-fourpiece play with such assuredness and confidence it's obvious they're really enjoying what they're doing, and I defy you not to have a huge smile on your face listening to this album.

Joe Washbourn surely has one of the most soulful voices in British music today, and this album should push them back where they belong - at the top!
