About the Author

Maria Bradley has worked at a variety of professions but has never released any of her writing for publication until November 2012. Her first book “Four’s a Crowd” was published in paperback and as an eBook on Amazon Kindle a couple of weeks later. She writes primarily for Teens and frequently states that her three young adult children are her inspiration. Although she is not primarily a poet, she has recently been placed as one of the runners up in a poetry competition with her poem ‘Manchester’; a cheerful rendition about her home town in England, and it’s appallingly wet weather. On 22 March 2013 she released her second Teen novel ‘Only Human’ in the spirit of the Twilight series and The Vampire Diaries. She is currently volunteering and writing the sequels to both novels full-time. In My Own Words: I'm an old fashioned writer and the words come easily to me if I write them on pen and paper before transferring them to the computer. I don't know if that is unusual but this digital world wasn't around when I was a girl (well, at least not in my house) and I'm comfortable with my bit of paper and sturdy old paper mate. The latest book is 'Only Human':Originally, a teen Ebook, now in print, for vampire novel enthusiasts. I wanted to write a story where the human girl was the outcast in a futuristic vampire-ruled world, as opposed to the other way around. Being a teenager is a rollercoaster adventure as it is (I remember) without the added complication of being flesh and blood, surrounded by immortals who would love to have you for dinner if they knew the truth. I'm a very shy Author and have only had 2 Teen/Young adult novels published so far. I have always scribbled ideas for novels and almost dared to let other people read them, but when you lack confidence it is a scary thing to show off your work. Now that I have, I could kick myself for not doing it sooner. Writing is amazing, it opens up your mind to so many possibilities and when I am in my work I feel like I am there with my characters. It's the same escapism I feel when I read a book. I only hope I can captivate the young people who read my work in the same way. If they are lost within the pages then I will have really achieved something.

"Only Human" is the tale of Aecia a young human girl born of a vampire clan that must hide who she really is for fear of being discovered by the vampires that rule the world. Ms. Bradley writes a truly captivating tale that steps perfectly into the void left by the Twilight fantasism which has now come to an end after the books/movies have finished, and manages to to still have a unique & imaginative plot that surpasses other books in the genre.

Aecia is desperately lonely, heartbreakingly confused about who is is (and what she is) and only wants to feel like she belongs somewhere. When she meets Garok for the first time she feels like she might actually belong and might actually be a part of something bigger than she could have ever imagined. The promise of others like her is too tempting for her and she begins a quest that might just lead to her uncovering secrets and hidden truths that have far reaching impacts than just her own life.

The novel is gripping, charming and evocative... making you run the gamut of emotions as you are swept along in Aecia's tale as she learns about herself and the world around her. The sweet, adorable romance between Aecia and the mysterious Garok is wonderfully authentic, inspiring that rose-hued color of young love, but with the shadowing of the dangerous supernatural world over it.

Altogether, this book is an original novel that promises a lot in the summary and delivers in spades, captivating the reader and driving them along on a fast-paced, truly charming plot that won't disappoint.

Aecia is given a diary for her 14th birthday, she treats her diary as a person and confides all her fears about growing up. Only she has much to worry about it is the year 3012 and whilst she is human everyone she knows, even her parents, are vampires. Aecia wears contacts to conceal her eyes and whilst at school drinks blood, though it makes her ill.
Two events change Aecia's life, firstly she meets someone who she thinks could be human too, then the school trip causes her to have to leave her 'normal' life behind.
Aecia needs to work out if those around her are friends or enemies.
I downloaded this as a free read a while ago but would recommend as a teenage read. The many unusual creatures we meet on the journey will appeal to younger readers.

This is a book that will exercise any young adult or teenager's imagination and reward him or her with mystical shivers and joy. Reading this great work has a secondary benefit: it is a pursuit of education not available in institutional academia. Well worth discovering this author's creativity.

A good book to read if you like twilight and other vampire stories. Took a star away because it became quite confusing.
