Good remote but be aware if using with Virgin Cable

This remote has nailed all my devices to a T apart from the Virgin Cable Box. The main problem with this device is that believe it or not there is no TV button to exit out of the menus in the Virgin Software. It has a back button but if you were following a series of menus then it acts like the back button in Internet Explorer taking you back through each menu. That doesn't seem like much of an issue because you can make it learn that, right?? Wrong!! it just doesn't want to know learning on ANY button of either the new silver virgin remote or even the old telewest one.
I guess we'll just have to use the back button until an updated one comes out with a TV button - which is getting pretty much the standard on every remote now!!

Great remote - especially for the money

I bought this on the review on another website and I certainly haven't been disappointed. It was really easy to set up. My DVD and satelite box are big name brands so that was just a matter of entering the remote codes - about 20s work. My TV, CD player and Amp are little-known brands so there were no codes. However, it was a couple of minutes work to set up all the functions using the learning feature.

I particularly like the fact that, in both satelite and DVD modes the volume control still operates the TV. There are only two very small niggles that caused me to drop one star. Firstly, the TV guide button is very small and tucked away in the bottom left-hand corner. On most satelite/Digital receiver remotes this is one of the main buttons so it seems strange to tuck it away there. Also, the front panel overlaps the edge very slightly on mine meaning it can sometimes rub into the palm of my hand as I hold it.

Other than that, the general build-quality of feel are excellent and, for the money, it really is amazing!

Great all in one

I bought this after reading the reviews and have to say they are correct. I have had a few all in one remotes and they have never been amazing, this one is.
It took me 20 minutes in total to be up and running. 10 minutes to read through the instruction booklet and 10 to set it up.
By looking in the index for your make of TV, (for example) you will find a code or codes specific to that make which you put into the remote. This then enables you to perform the functions of your (soon to be defunk) remote. The code only goes in once and your away OR you can make it learn from your existing remote by pointing it to the old one and performing a few button presses OR by a search method whereby you point the remote at the TV (for example) and it searches for the code itself though you can end up pressing the search button a lot but hey its not difficult.

You can also programme macro shortcuts that will perform a sequence of commands at the press of one button e.g TV on, DVD on, AMP on, select DVD channel on TV, play DVD, which is one of the best features on it.

Quality is excellent and it feels right in your hand (ahem) and the button layout is quite intuitive. The specific control buttons at the top light up in a red glow and the up,down,left,right wheel is excellent too.
So for all those technophobes out there, this is a device that you can easily set up and use without any problems

Does Not Work with Sony BDP-S350 Blu-Ray player

This remote cannot be set up to work with the Sony BDP-S350.

This is a particular problem because the multi-region hack for the BDP-S350 (as advertised in Amazon's discussion forums) requires a One For All remote. But as I say, it won't work with this remote because you can't set it up.

Since the BDP-S350 and this One For All URC-7556 are respectively Amazon's best-selling Blu Ray and One For All remote, I imagine that a lot of people have been caught out with this. Amazon even advise that the items are frequently bought together. That's a lot of angry, baffled, frustrated, anguished customers. Perhaps we should organise some sort of get-together? I'll prepare a small finger buffet, although I wouldn't advise eating any of it because my toilet hygiene isn't the best.

Now I have to return this remote to the manufacturers for them to update it, or something. What a pain in the arse.

Easy to configure and easy to use

Friends warned me against buying an all-in-one controller, saying that they are too complicated and never manage to control all your various devices. Well, I ignored that advice and based on reviews both on Amazon and elsewhere, went ahead and bought the "One for all URC7556 5 in 1 Remote Control". Unusually for me, I spent a few minutes reading the instructions and am glad that I did, simply because this is not a device that you will guess how to configure. However, having read the instructions it took in the region of three minutes to configure the controller for my TV, VHS and DVD. Those three devices are all from different manufacturers and vary dramatically in ages, so I did have my doubts about whether an all-in-one controller would cope with them, but I needn't have worried as everything worked like a dream. So it's definitely easy to configure. It's also very intuitive to use after configuration.

It's possibly not for people who struggle with small buttons, but if my experience is anything to go by, for anybody else who is looking for an all-in-one controller this is probably as good as you are going to get.

Having a rather obscure make of PVR it was a delight to find that this remote covered it in the programming booklet. This is an excellent product that has none of the dissapointment value of other multifunction remotes which claim a lot and deliver little. As well as being easy to set up it has a programmable 'magic' button, that I have been able to set to either start or switch off the TV, PVR, and AMP all with one button press, impressive. If you can work it out it, not as clearly explained in the booklet, also has an option so that whenever you press a selected button its function will always default to the same item of equipment, so the volume keys on the remote will always work the volume on the amp, not the TV even if TV was the last mode set. Likewise the program button always default to the PVR not the TV. With almost all the buttons being fully programmable there is very little you can't do to customise this. Excellent product, highly recomend it.
