This book grabbed me. Shoplifting and hooliganism, fraud, violence, alcoholism and homelessness, prison and near death. I could feel this guy's pain as well as the pain he caused. It's vivid - I could see and hear some of the terrible things he got into. Almost smell them. Then something happened which turned him inside out. It was a God thing. The leopard changed its spots.

Two things impressed me. The honesty with which the book is written - I wouldn't have wanted to admit to some of the stuff Gram did - and the comments at the end of the book by people who knew him and could say, 'This guy's for real'.

I'd heard about this book and how every one was reading it so quickly- one week-three days etc, so I read it , took me three days- amazing story and well worth the read. I passed it on to someone who read it the same day!

Great book, plainly written, down to earth and much of the book is taken up with describing his previous life before he became a Christian. An enjoyable read that I feel I could give to people without a faith.

This is not a book of my natural choice. I was lent the book and don't mind going out of my box from time to time. This is a book that puts up no pretence. The author speaks directly, sincerely and honestly about his life. It was about a boy who was lost from day one, got on the wrong side of the law very quickly, was helpless in changing his self-destructive path, ended up a homeless drunkard, and almost died of his alcoholism and other abuses; while he was in a coma on life support, when all hopes of his coming round were lost, by the power of prayer, he was "resurrected" and subsequently recovered. He has been chosen and Christ has saved him in every sense of the word. He became a new person, literally born-again, and his heart was filled to its brim for others like him. He did not waste any time to reach out to the lost just like him, and has worked tirelessly towards this cause eventually through the charity he set up after ten years being a Christian.

The book is 175 pages long, and the account moves with some speed considering that it covers 32 years of living before the author met Jesus. A sentence may read that he spent 18 months in jail - it takes less a second to read but it represents 18 months of Gram's life behind bars in his real life. Even we have his life condensed so much for us, there is still no escape of the fact that there were repeated disappointments - he letting himself and all his loved ones down. Time and time again, he said to himself and family that he was going to change, find a job, turning away from his old way. These only turned out to be hollow promises if not lies. In the end, he was on his own as his grandparents died in their fifties and his mother finally disowned him. He could not blame her.

This is an impressive story of God's practical grace at work to turn a wasted life around and through it to change the lives of others for the better. Brilliant and challenging, especially as regards the faithful Christians who took a risk and reached out to Gram at his most desperate point. Would the rest of us do the same?

I absolutely love this book and could not put it down and in fact read it from beginning to end in one sitting. The writer lived in the north east of England Middlesbrough area which I did not know when I bought the book but the fact that I live in Middlesbrough too made it even more interesting as I knew most of the places that he spoke about in the book. But even without that fact it's a cracking book and I was amazed and how he changed his life around from alcoholic to tee totaller. I would recommend this book to anyone.

This is a very encouraging book. Reading about Gram's life before he found Jesus highlights just how much a loving father God did for him and could also do for you if you let Him. This really is God at work. Read it and be encouraged.
