From the manufacturer
See the beauty. Meet the beast.
The Olympus PEN-F is one of Olympus’ extraordinary cameras. Fine materials and timeless design combine to create a modern piece of craftsmanship.
But this camera is far more than just beautiful. It is the result of 80 years of camera history and technical innovations. A real beauty as soon as you see it. A beast under the surface.
Craftsmanship and design – Smart is the new sexy
Fine materials and timeless design combine to create a modern piece of craftsmanship. From the first moment you touch the extraordinary textured body of the Olympus PEN-F this camera will create a feeling of something special that will stay with you forever. The pure expression of Olympus design.
Creative Dial – The strength of innovation
With the Creative Dial you get direct access to four creative functions. Two of these have never been used before in combination with a camera. With the Monochrome Profile Control you can set different effects – like the Monochrome-Filter-Effect that imitates classical photo filters and also includes a gradation curve. And with the Colour Profile Control, you can change the colour saturation of 12 different colours.
Image Quality – Capture the moment in first class
Thanks to the 5-axis image stabilisation you can work over a lengthy period with low sensitivities, so that it is much easier to take a photo without blurring. Added to that, the image sensor introduced by Olympus with the PEN-F benefits the image quality. Twenty million pixels ensure a resolution that caters for every need.
High Visibility Viewfinder – Seek and find
The first Olympus PEN with an electronic viewfinder in a rangefinder style – the High Visibility Viewfinder. The advantage: the effects of all features like the Art Filters or the Monochrome Profile Control can be examined before you take a photo with a certain setting.
Everyone appreciates a camera that takes a picture the very moment you press the shutter button. That is why the response time of the Olympus PEN-F is stunningly short. And since we all like to compete: no other camera in this category has a shorter release time.
The vari-angle display let you shoot a photo from every perspective and ensures a comfortable handling.
Built-in Wi-Fi and Olympus Image Share
The built-in Wi-Fi and the Olympus Image Share app make it possible for you to operate the camera remotely using a smartphone. But that’s not all: Release the shutter, change settings, transfer your images to your smartphone or tablet and share stunning photos with the whole world instantly.
High quality leather camera bag
This slim and padded camera bag is manufactured from genuine leather and a perfect fusion of timeless design and a contemporary response to functionality. A large flap on the front makes it easy to take out the camera.

I am the happy owner of a Canon 1DX Mark II and a Canon EOS 5D Mark III, but I wanted a small high-end camera to take on holiday. After reading several reviews and finding it hard to decide if I were to get the latest version of the Fujifilm X100 or the Olympus Pen-F, I finally decided on the latter. The two things that won me over in the end, were the flip screen and the image stabilizer. Also, I got a good deal on a package containing two excellent lenses: a 17mm and a 45mm.
I have been shooting with this camera for about a week now and I really, really love it. The picture quality is outstanding and the flip screen enables me to take pictures from strange angles using the viewfinder.
It's a bit pricey, yes, but I highly recommend it nevertheless.
Sure, its expensive, you can get another camera, maybe a weatherproof one (but not half as good looking and a joy to use) and you can wait for prices to come down (but they often don't on these models and think of all those lovely photos you could take meanwhile!). I highly recommend the new Pen-F. Any questions, do ask.
Why then should I invest in the PEN-F?
The specification is excellent and the practical application of the front ‘creative’ dial and the relevant colour and art controls has already become intuitive. Having learned a lot about the very ‘chunky’ Olympus menu system from the OM series the PEN-F is not too difficult to set up to ‘custom’ tastes.
A lot has been said about the general practicality of handling the PEN-F and it certainly responds fast and reliably to provide some excellent results in a wide range of lighting conditions. A cat portrait at ISO1600 was as crisp and saturated as the best full frame cameras.
Whilst the price of the PEN-F is a bit steep and other Olympus bodies such as the OM-D-E-M10 offer better value they do not have the same panache and operational enjoyment.
From this initial experience I intend to use the PEN-F, principally with the smaller prime lenses, as my regular companion. However the OM-D-E-M1, particularly with the larger zoom lenses, and power grip will be on hand for the more serious expeditions.
Congratulations to Olympus for producing a very special offering in the PEN-F!
I absolutely love it!
Well if your wondering what might be an issue, here you go. The PEN-F lacks a suitable grip and the video isn't a strong point, which I kind of expect. For the price, I would have liked to have seen the camera more weather secure, which it isn't at the moment. Another slight issue however is preserving details in bright vibrant, intense reds, which is a little upsetting.
Overall it has excellent photo quality and performance is fantastic. With the fast capture rate, it's a good one for on the go.
