Well built, very flexible & powerful, yet easy to use as point & shoot camera. 8 Meg Pixel gives enough detail to allow Big posters or cropping for the perfect composition. i love this camera.
Down side? Mine was delivered with a minor CCD chip flaw and slightly wobbly lens unit which is being filled.

Truly amazing. I have held off on the digital revolution until spec and price came within reach. This camera takes the most amazing pictures of outstanding quality and precision regardless of the surroundings. Whether in badly lit auditoriums, wet weather at dusk, or glorious sunshine, nothing phases this camera. The battery's power and longevity means a weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix was easily completed without any battery worries.
If you have ever wondered which camera to buy you would have to go to PRO equipment to exceed this marvellous kit, and even then it would not guarantee any better photos.
The software provided was disappointing with its basic simplicity, but then serious snappers will already have this area well covered.
    Happy snapping

I used to be a Pro Photographer using medium to large format film cameras. Always swore never to own a digital .Wrong. This camera beats any 35mm camera for quality of picture.Comes close to medium format even matches it. Easy to use solid build. I did have a C5060 before this camera for its very good macro .This C8080 does dissapoint in that department only going to 5cm. But the 8 megapixles correct this somewhat when cropping down to say a small coin. The quality is still very good. Outside macro. Cant fault it lovely results. I bought and used it on holiday in Yorkshire recently with minimum reference to the book. Great results.

I purchased my C-8080 in Feb 2005. I am very pleased with it.
    PROS:
The picture quality is excellent with great resolution.
The camera functions are excellent and easy enough. I played with it for a week before deciding to pick up the instruction book.
The connectivity with my PC was as simple as plug and play. It displayed itself as a new drive on my PC as soon as I plugged it in. I could then manage the files with my standard file manager.
The macro function alows me to take high res pics as close as 5cm.
    CONS:
Battery life seems short although the batteries are rechargable. I would recommend a spare battery.
The built-in microphone does not provide great sound capture, although it is acceptable.
Although the camera was quite expensive I made the purchase expecting it to last me a few years. With picture resolution this good I am sure it will.
Extras you should get when you puchase this:
    A spare battery.
    A carry case.
    More memory.
Amazon sell this for over £150.00 less than Argos. Delivery was within 48 hours.

Following using an entry-level digital camera, I wanted to get closer to the resolution and control offered by conventional SLR cameras. Used it the day after I received it, with the minimal amount of manual-reading and found it simple to set up and use.
Went to Tobago and found the different exposure monitoring methods useful (sun refecting off the sea etc) and was amazed at the quality of the results when I got home.
The macro facility is superb and the digital zoom gave good results. The camera balance is excellent and everything fell to hand quite naturally. Using the 256 chip I got over 250 exposures at the highest quality resolution. The battery life surpasses anything else by a huge margin, even using the flash.
Wouldn't hesitate to reccomend this camera to anyone who wants top quality results from a digital camera without limiting their creativity at a price that is not silly. If I have one small carp, its the covers for the DC and USB sockets whch didn't inspire confidence of their durability.

I have had a 35mm film SLR and a 3mp digital point-and-squirt for ages. I wanted to stay with digital but have more flexibility. After weeks of research, I plumped for the Olympus C8080. Good choice! Great lens, lots of features that enable creativity (still finding some after more than a year!). Limited just a little by the 5x zoom when trying to get really long shots.

The C8080 is a high quality, solid reliable camera that you can pick up and use on auto if you're a beginner but likely to keep me (an enthusiastic amateur) happy for a long while. Well done Olympus.
