About the Author

Mike Connah always enjoyed writing poems and creating stories as a youngster, and this was rekindled when he had children and was forcibly made to think up a new and creative story every night in order to satisfy the demands of young, eager minds! His aim is to encourage children to think about a wide variety of different subjects in order to ignite a spark of curiosity. He is kept very busy by running the family business, writing new stories and spending much treasured time with his family. Ian Cunliffe is a popular illustrator who has provided artwork for well known children's books, including Jeremy Strong's 'A Very Fishy Battle' (Nominated on Richard & Judy Children's Books Special) and 'The Bun Gun' (Televised on CBeebies's Jackanory Junior). On his way to becoming an illustrator, Ian ventured off to do special effects at Shepperton Studios where he was part of the team that created Robert De Niro's prosthetics for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Then to Penguin Books for five years as a designer/illustrator. Today, Ian works from home where he watches green parakeets fly past his studio window... and that's before his imagination kicks in!

I found this an original and enchanting picture book. My three year old son loved all the transport pictures in particular. The story explored the frustrations of a young child being forced to go on a car journey but ended with a lovely message about sharing special moments as a family - 'we've shared an experience, a moment in time'. This is a great book to share with children as it generates a lot of discussion, both about eclipses and special memories.

A charming story with engaging illustrations that has had our daughter Chloe(age 4)requesting Ollie every evening before bedtime. Since enjoying Ollie's journey together we have borrowed Grandpa's binoculars and on clear nights gazed at the moon together. We looked up a lunar calendar for the Northern Hemisphere at moonconnection.com and the next full moon is Tuesday 26th February 2013. Chloe is very excited and wants to know if there will be an eclipse? We will let you know. Evie her older sister (age 8) has also joined our lunar adventure and so I am looking for a second pair of binoculars to ensure that we are ready for "Ollie and the Comet".Enjoy!

A well illustrated book with an unusual subject for children. I think that it could help to get our children interested in the amazing world that we live in. I have never seen this subject before in any children's books. ie. an eclipse.....what it is and what happens. Children can become enthusiastic about the world and our universe from a very early age and this book could help them to become more inquisitive..

This is a lovely picture book for any young child - I bought it for my niece and nephew (5 & 7) and they both really enjoyed it. They enjoyed the character of Ollie, who behaves like a typical grumpy child on the journey. The story flows in a very nice rhyme, and the pictures are wonderfully bright and colourful.

A charming and unusual story - I haven't seen the subject of an eclipse covered in a children's book like this before, and it makes a change for the child in the story to be grumpy and reluctant, though I am familiar with this in real life... Beautifully illustrated throughout, this is a lovely book.

Our children both love this story (age 4 and 8). It captures all the sentiments of family life, and the nostalgia attached! Particularly lovely is that it sparked all sorts of questions and memories for us to talk about even when we arent reading it. I love the detail in the illustrations, seeing the eclipse reflected in the special glasses etc. Splendid book, one to keep for the grandchildren too! Made me stop to think for a while about the wonders of our world and share the wonders with the children.
