I have to disagree with the other review in saying that this is the best recording yet. The overall quality is much better in the recording, better bass, and the orchestra are much sharper. Although the singing is not 100% perfect in places, thats because its a live recording, it gives you a sense of what its like to be in the theatre especially as you also have audience noise there as well. If you want a very enhanced studio recording get the 1994 version, but if you want a high audio quality recording, with the atmosphere of the show, and live pit band rather than an enhanced orchestra then this is the recording to get. If you have seen the show since its 2008 re-opening then this CD is a must buy

As a lover of Oliver you hear many versions of it but was very impressed by this. Great standard and a must for lovers of musical theatre

Compared with the 1994 version this recording was disappointing. There are points where the singing is out of tune, during Consider Yourself the Artful Dodger seems to get rather breathless as he is obviously dancing at the same time.

Rowan Atkinson sounds OK, but at times he sounds exactly like Mr Bean playing Fagin. Jodie Prenger sounds great, although I am biased as I liked her on I'll Do Anything. She sounds the part and hits the right balance of sauciness and pathos.

Not a bad recording, but the 1994 recording is far superior. Given a choice I would go for that one instead.
