I stayed up the first night reading book one, I stayed up the second night reading this, and it was as good if not slightly better than book one, When you have earphones in and reading about them going into the dark stairwell and your five year old grabs you, and you jump through the roof then you know the book has you hooked, I need a book three, please say there is a book three

I really loved this second book and after I read it I had to contact the author to find out when the third one would be available, I've not done that before.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Story Continues 30 May 2012
By Michael J. Burnett - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
"The Old City" is, in my opinion, the best kind of sequel.

In her debut novel Katherine Sorin set up a believable world and an admirable protagonist, and in her next one both of them grow in some unexpected ways. It isn't just the same story told again (as so many sequels, unfortunately, tend to be) it is the next phase of an ongoing story.

I really don't want to say much about what happens in "The Old City" because it is just as tightly plotted as "City Of Whispers" and to reveal anything is to reveal too much. Suffice to say that it picks up where we left off, same characters, same world, but... different.

The writing style is subtly different, making use of dramatic flashbacks that help to explain both the back story of the main character Ailis and foreshadow things to come without slowing the pace of the action. It's clear that Sorin is stretching herself as a writer, and I suspect she hasn't hit her stride yet--I am really looking forward to more stories from her.

Ailis continues to grow and change as a person, coming to terms with her experience and being changed by them, without losing the intimate voice that made "City Of Whispers" so enjoyable. The world also expands--nothing that was explained in the first book is contradicted in the second, but much is added.

If you have read "City Of Whispers" then you will be pleased and excited and surprised by "The Old City". If you haven't read "City Of Whispers", then read it first, then come back and get this one.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good story, but an incomplete tale. 6 May 2013

"The Old City" is an installment in what has become a series. It was not a series when City of Whispers (book 1) was purchased and likewise book 2.
This particular installment does not fulfil my desire to read a story that stands alone. The series must be continued to find out what happens next. I guess this is one way to sell books, but it would be more transparent to simply tell the reader it's going to be a series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! 29 May 2012
By Sherry Clifton - Published on Amazon.com

One of the first books I read when I got my Kindle Fire, City of Whispers, blew me away. I enjoyed the storyline and characters. I emailed the the author to ask about the next book and amazingly enough I got an email back saying she was working on it. I got another email from Ms. Soren when she released The Old City. I immediately bought it and devoured it! I love this story! The only down side was that she left me hanging once more. I am very excited to read the third book in the series and will wait on pins and needles until it is released. These books are a must read!

4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyed this one 26 May 2012

After reading the first book in this series, City Of Whispers, I contacted the author to see when the sequel would be out. I got the email yesterday stating The Old City was available. I bought and read the book immediately. Now, I want to know when the third installment will be out?

Like the first book, The Old City is action packed. Sorin's attention to detail and interesting storyline keep the reader engaged. I was happy to learn that my suspicions regarding Desmond in the first novel were confirmed in the sequel. I don't want to give anything away, so I will just say that I was happy with this book. I would encourage anyone who liked City Of Whispers to get this one (and the next one) too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book by Sorin 15 May 2013
By Jean Fleming - Published on Amazon.com

This sequel continues with its wonderful characters and storyline. this time Ailis and friends are in London searching for her sister. They were able to get there by contracting to locate and save the powerful Mr. Ashdown's son. the father - son relationship is certainly revealed to be hostile and dear sonny boy is not all that cooperative. What starts to become clear as the story progresses is that London and its vampire outbreak has progressed differently than NYC's , and this entire vampire thing is becoming more of a mystery than anyone imagined. Cannot wait to read the next book in the series!
