That being said, the scent is very nice ,and it lathers up very well.
Don't let this review put you off, give it a try. Can't win em all though.
If you have sensitive skin I highly recommend the Muhle R89 with Astra SP blades, an alum block after you clean off exess soap then washing down face with witch hazel, finishing off with Poraso sensitive aftershave balm and touching up with Man Cave sensitive moisturiser.
According to the tub, the Jermyn Street cream is designed for sensitive skin, and I have indeed noticed that the lather tends to be a little bit thicker than the other TOBS creams. You can always compensate with a touch more water if you prefer your lather to be a little bit thinner. The lather develops really quickly and you only need a little bit on the tips of the brush. The lather is nice and dense, doesn't dry out quickly, and it gives a nice comfortable shave. The razor just glides across the skin. I use an alum block after I shave, which tends to highlight any areas that are perhaps a little bit raw (usually on my neck) - but after shaving with the Jermyn Street cream there is no feedback whatsoever from the alum block. Not even the slightest nip. So it is certainly good at cushioning and protecting the skin during the shave.
The scent is also really nice. I find it a bit more subtle compared to the other TOBS creams. It doesn't really last for any length of time after the shave, but for me this is not a problem. I always use aftershave balm in any case. If you have an aftershave of a different scent, then you will be able to use it after the Jermyn Street cream without any problem - it is subtle enough that it won't clash. I tend to use sandalwood aftershave gel (from TOBS), and the Jermyn Street cream compliments it nicely.
The packaging is the usual TOBS affair with a screw top plastic pot. I find that the black colour of the pot gives it an air of sophistication as it sits in the bathroom. I like the TOBS pots because, once they are empty, I tend to use them as a lathering bowl - just the right size and works great.
So, in summary, the Jermyn Street shaving cream is a great product that I highly recommend.
You use the smallest amount possible and it creates the most amazing amount of foam on the brush - I do mean amazing. Although it might cost double the amount of a regular can of foam I think this will last longer than about 5 cans so it is incredibly good value as well. It also smells incredibly good.
Well whatever it does it really works because I get much closer shave now.
I'm using a Parker 99R razor and Astra platinum blades. I have tried Palmolive soap and Proraso soap before using this. I really like the Proraso but I think that this gives me a slightly smoother shave with a really nice finish.
I found it easier to get a proper lather out of the soap but it's worth the effort to learn how to produce a good thick lasting lather with this. I think the technique is slightly different with different products. Learn to get it right with this cream and you will enjoy a very good smooth shave. At the price it won't break the bank to try it.
