Product Description

Product Description

Three episodes of the 'anime' series from Japan. In 'Moonlight and Cherry Blossoms' Morisato Kelichi arrives at university. When he orders some delivery dinner it's the goddess Belldandy who actually arrives, offering to grant him a wish. He wishes for a girlfriend just like the goddess in front of him at which point things get complicated. In 'Midsummer Night's Dream' Morisato is still hoping for romance to develop with his goddess but is having no luck. At which point the goddess's sister Urd steps in to help. Finally, in 'Burning Hearts on the Road', Morisato gets appointed driver for the Auto Club in the University Drag Race, and not everyone is betting on him to win...

From Amazon.co.uk

Fujishima Kyousuke's Oh My Goddess is--as both animated film and the Manga comic book original--one of the most cutely romantic things in Japanese popular culture. In this first volume, the lonely student Morisato, desperate to get some takeaway food, finds himself connected to the Goddess Hotline and is visited by the angelically beautiful Belldandy, who offers him a wish. Assuming this to be a joke by his fellow students, he wishes that she stay with him forever. In the event, their relationship is tender and most of the comedy derives from brief intermissions when true love fails to run smooth, partly because of visits from her highly sexualised sister Urd and petulant baby sister Skuld. There is an odd picture here of Japanese student life--highly authoritarian dormitories and a playboy culture in which the motorcycle mechanic Morisato is constantly exploited by affluent biker chums--but there is an underlying sweet-naturedness to the three episodes here "Moonlight and Cherry Blossoms", "Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Burning Hearts on the Road" that is remarkably attractive in its sugary way. --Roz Kaveney --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I got this a while ago so I guess I'm lucky to be the first review, all I can say is that this a simply a GREAT DVD,within the first few minutes you immediatly like the main charactor Belldandy (the Goddess the title speaks of,the first episode isn't hilariously funny but it has its moments, the second episode is the best of the three, and the third is kind of in between. The main charactor Keiichi is easy to identify with (for some people) and Belldandy's sisters have their own charactor rather than just being in the backround to provide the occasional jokes. If you enjoy romantic comedies, manga,or just class DVD's,you should buy this,I can't wait for Vol 2

Volume one of the 'OH My Goddess!' series on dvd has got to be one of my favorite Anime. It contains excellant animation and artwork which has been digitally remastered from the origional to increase its quality. It is about a short lonely guy named Keiichi who is awarded a single wish from goddess Belldandy. Of course like any other guy who would meet a woman comming through a mirror, you would think it was a practical joke, but he soon finds out when making his wish, that his life would change drasticly. For not only does he end up living with Belldandy but also her unique but loveable sisters, Urd: Whom is the eldest and not exactly wisest sister and Skuld: The youngest very childest sister whom at first hates Keiichi.
This anime is a must for those who like fantastic artwork, comedy, drama and emotional themes. I have loved this DVD since purchasing it and watch it very regurlarly. It has an amazing and mysteriouse storyline along with the abilities to play the movie with only SFX and music so you can sing or replace the actors voices with your own as it plays through, not only that but it also has a slide show of origional cels and artwork leading up to the creation of this fantastic anime.
I would highly recommend this to anyone and upon purchasing it I would suggest you also get Volume 2 and the 'Ah My Goddess!' Movie. One other note, if you enjoy this anime then it would be a good idea to check out the graphic novels also!

I've not watched it as it was bought for my brother, two things, the packaging looks like a third generation photocopy,it has to be quite heavily scrutinized before you realize it's not a bootleg and apparently even though it's rated 12,one of the episodes is a bit near the mark and shouldn't be watched by young children, this has been mentioned on Wikipedia.
