A great controller, but the wire keeps breaking

A really good controller. Maybe even the best...

...until you use it for 6 months and it stops working. Have had 3. First one lasted 4 months. Second one lasted 3 years. Third one lasted 6 months. The wire on this thing is very fragile, especially where the wire meets the top of the controller. You need to make sure it isn't bent at all or it's going to cause damage; eventually the controller will just cut out unless the wire is positioned in a certain way making it unusable.

Going to explore alternatives because this keeps breaking.

Official Xbox 360 Common Controller

This controller is to replace a cheap generic usb one for games on my PC. The difference is night and day, this one has a really high quality feel about it and it was immediately apparent that the control and feel in games was superb.

The games that I use this for are Assetto Corsa, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and GTA Vice City.

The usb adapter is included in the package, no extras required. There is a software CD included, but I ignored this. Just plug and play.

If you are getting a controller, this really is the one.

A great controller than still competes with newer models on pc

If you're comfortable using an xbox controller then you wont have an issues using this for the pc. The wired controller is extremely responsive and has zero delay compared to most wireless model, which is great for competitive gaming where 1ms can decide if you win or lose. The body has a high quality feel about it and it feels comfortable in my hands with little slip.

It has a simple plug and play functionality and comes with usb adaptor if you want to connect to pc. It's compatible with windows 7 and above and comes with a cd driver if need be. Personally i never bothered to use it since it's pretty straight forward but if it was in need of an update i'd simply download and install the drivers (that continue to be updated) later to resolve any issues or modifications. I was pleasantly surprised with the number of games that are compatible with the controller. Almost ever fps, driving and open world game supports the gear even though its a bit outdated now considering we now run on xbox one and scuff controllers. Would i still use the latter ones mentioned. Short answer yes those are entirely different gear tailored for pro gaming with all types of bells and whistles tailored for competitive gameplay.

With that said If you are getting a controller that still works, you're going to use it for casual gaming and are on a tight budget, this really is the one for you.

Stopped working after 1 month

The trigger buttons are quite squeaky. It stopped working properly after 1 month (just outside the amazon return window)... I believe due to something with the wiring as if you wiggle the wire it works again briefly.

Xbox 360 Controller For Windows 10 PC

Purchased to play Need For Speed on Windows 10.
It is specified exactly as the wireless XBOX 360 models and does the job - it had force feedback, and seems to be that tiny bit quicker than the wireless version (As an alternative, I could have bought a wireless receiver for the PC instead and used the XBOX 360 gamepads). But this works fine.
The unit can be used by up to four people and a light shows in one four quadrants depending on which person is designated player 1, player 2 etc. It should light up in the 9-12 quadrant (per a clock), but somewhere, somehow, I or it changed to the 12 to 3 quadrant - which meant I could not use it - it reverted back to the keypad. I reloaded the game to no avail, but it reset itself properly when I rebooted the PC. I thought the game would govern it, but there seems to be a little more than that. Having said that it works fine with this game and is definitely better than the keyboard.

Honestly I prefer the playstation 3 controller with the pressure sensitive buttons but to be fair the pc gaming side of it which is most likely what your buying this for it works fine in games with proper controller support in games like The Crew, Race Driver Grid which is what i bought mine for.
Did not expect to plug in and 10 seconds later on my old windows 7 x64 bit pc with steam running to just work fine. Like I pressed the big X button and steams big picture loaded up. This is with plugging it into the usb port and just sitting down it was all installed and done, I didn't actually have to do anything. Then again that is what you kind of expect even with some old pc gamepads like i had but i thought this being a Microsoft product it would need a load of faffing around and driver which is usually the case but no its fine.
There is drivers on the microsoft homepage but if you use windows 7 x64 like me there is no point all it does is show up a logo on your screen when your not in steam. :S There is literally no point. I disabled it in startup with msconfig so now when i press it, it doesn't do that. (Microsoft stuff right? :D)
Honestly the shape of it i dont really like either the reason I bought this is because my old pad has gotten old and worn out one of the buttons doesnt work as it should and some games dont like it. Games seem to have better support for this one, i noticed assetto corsa also likes this controller and not my old one which had I had to have a weird layout involving no clutch or handbrake for drifting (all about Power, decelleration, weight transition). I think this one should be fine considering the sticks are on an axis but the game likes the clutch to be on an axis and handbrake you have to find in the awkward place of Advanced unless you have a weird layout. The support is good for this controller so far. Even CS GO shows up in steams big picture with controller support. I may try that later for a laugh in casual mode.
As a microsoft product and xbox h8r as people would call it, This pad is fine it does what you expect. Feels sturdy although mine is squeaky (probably just needs wearing in). Doesn't feel particularly amazing its just meh it will do.
Its black so it doesn't stand out on the desk like a sore thumb. I really don't like the white ones they look like cheap bling.
I 4 Star this because there was no messing around its just plug in and sit down. So far games that support it haven't need setting up or anything just run game and it works. I just change the layout to the GranTurismo style because that is my preferred way of playing. Racing games use the triggers and I find it weird.
Only reason I didn't give it 5stars is its not exactly mind blowingly good either. It just works.
I would of 5 star this IF shape wasn't weird to me (Im a playstation 3 controller fanboy), the ABXY buttons was see through and had leds lighting them (yes i know sounds childish but the buttons look like a cheap rip off, of nintendos snes controller), The silver X button wasn't ugly with the horrible green led. (Im sorry but ew take the x way and make the led white or something). Analogue sticks feel like they bulge out the controller. (Its when im using them they feel like a bit like they stand out a little too much from the rest of the controller).
I recommend, less headaches with games that have support. Although there maybe some special cases like with some unity games or something that don't actually support it properly. eg Drift Streets Japan.
