An average thriller with a twist which we did not see coming. The setting is a refreshing change - Bridgeport, Connecticut, but the problems are the same - girls being forced into sex, corrupt cops, gun violence, foreign (?Russian) baddies at the centre of all.
The first part is full of flashbacks - in black and white except for a red car - very significant - but annoying. The lead character - Callaghan - is on screen for most of the time as he battles with his past, his inadequacies, the plot. Any David Boreanaz fans buying this shouldn't blink - you might miss him ! Altogether same old, same old.

Boring film with the flash backs just becoming very confusing, lots of characters who filtered in and out of the film and you cared nothing for them, quite a morally corrupt finish as well. Obviously the better known actors slept through their roles, always enjoy seeing James Woods getting pissed off, I wouldn't have liked to have been his agent after this came out

Officer Down is a well made cop drama which doesn't have a particularly original story but is better than many DTV movies in the genre. It's not a blatant B movie like the type that Seagal churns out. The story is about a cop trying to put his shady past behind him and go straight. Yes it's yet another story of redemption. It's also more of a drama than an action movie. Technically it's as good as many theatrical releases and also has a good cast including Stephen Dorff and James Woods.

Would it be so boring to have a hero detective who isn't emotionally unstable or an alcoholic or a drug addict? In this movie Stephen Dorff plays Detective Callahan who although happily married with a beautiful wife and daughter not so long ago was crooked, an alcoholic and took cocaine. So far, so familiar. Following a shooting where he nearly died he is now trying to go straight. He goes to church, is off the bottle and the coke but is still emotionally unstable.
He is approached by a Russian ex-pat who is linked to his past and needs his help to deal with a rapist who caused the death of his daughter. Before he knows it Callahan is playing off field again and wrapped up in the sordid life style he tried to escape.
Anyone with any link to law enforcement will be amazed at how unrealistic most of the story is whether its being told in flashback or real time. The amazing thing is that an epilogue screen appears to suggest this was based on a true story.
I can only guess that everything has been changed to protect the innocent.
Not the best cop movie you'll see this year but I didn't think it was any worse than 'End of Watch'.

Went on got boring and you could guess what was going to happen next, it's a shame I've seen most of the actors in better films just thought this would be the same
